@xwraith: Mistborn came before Gurren, and while they belong to drastically different genres (Gurren Lagann is a mecha-anime, while Mistborn is a high fantasy book series), several plot points and narratives are chillingly similar.
It depicts a post-apocalyptic where humanity has been wiped out, there are regular humans/the Skaa and the Beastmen/the Nobility that are both ruled by a god-like immortal tyrant Lord Ruler/Lordgenome)
The main heroes are a resistence with a charismatic leader on the helm Kamina/Kelsier and their sidekick who turns out to be the main protagonist of the series Simon/Vin (the main difference between them is that Vin is a girl). In the end, the leader sacrifices himself in the struggle against the tyrant and the main protagonist exibhit magic powers of Spiral/Allomancy that they use to stop the main villain.
After the tyrant's defeat, they try to restabilize the world only to find out that the Lord Ruler/Lordgenome were actually holding back a much bigger threat from being unleashed into the world, which is a eldritch-entity known as Ruin/Anti-Spiral that is posed to destroy everything that exists.
And oh, Vin's love interest is a Nobleman the same way Simon's girlfriend is Princess Nia :P What do you think of it?
