But because of that incident they haven't been left alone. That's the one thing this town has that others don't. Imagine being in a small town that is never messed with for your entire life. Now imagine there's one huge incident and you're life is now nothing but news crews and people feeling sorry for you, and some people blaming your beloved town for an entire war. It can mess with your mind.
