I think the video game was a good way to test the waters.  People got really excited for it so I'm sure there will be just as much excitment for the movie.  Though I'm not holding my breath until I see a trailer cause they've been talking about doing a third movie for a LONG time now.

@Donovan Montgomery:
You don't need to read it to understand anything in the main storylines.  The Dark Avengers are in it, but don't do anything (like everyone else).

I remember the 2099 Universe when it was new and have a the first issues of Spider-Man 2099 and X-Men 2099. Course this was the 90s so its not that rare I guess Ha Ha!  Anyway, when I found out about this series I was pretty excited to see what would happen.
WHAT A LET DOWN!  Can't believe no one warned me so I must take it upon myself to save you all.  So much wrong with it!

#1- No Story
Nothing happens, at least not that I can tell.  God even Batman R.I.P. made more sense.  There's a timestorm (oooo) and then we have Spider-Man and Wolverine sent to the future.  But what do they do?  Nothing.  Absolutly nothing.  They just run around getting chased by stuff and meeting the 2099 characters.  They have no idea what's going on and do nothing to save the timeline.  I'm not sure exactly how its saved cause I think by the end of the series I was just so bored by it that I didn't care if the marvel universe was destroyed.  Now there are these mini-subplots scattered all over, but they're all downplayed and just end.

#2- It's Not the Same 2099
They completly reimagined it!  If they were going to do that, then make it Ultimate 2099!  Don't get me excited to see these characters again and have them NOT be those characters.  The ages of the characters are different, their origins are different, and even some of their genders are different.  What the crap?

#3- Its a Money Pit
I could kick myself for buying this series, even the crossover Spider-Man and Wolverine issues.  I thought that once I have all the pieces together I could figure out the story and there is none to be found.  Granted you find out where the heck the characters went BUT THEY DON'T DO ANYTHING!  Just run here for one issue and then here in the next.  I can't even throw it out cause I might as well get my moneys worth using it as costers or napkins.

Face front true believer!  Don't look back at this and get curious and hope for a quick trip back to an interesting concept.  It just a painful reminder of the sacrifice of story for milking a franchise for few extra bucks.  I'm I the only poor bastard that fell into this trap?

Ha ha!  I was there and met him.  Got slightly buzzed off the free drinks (they were strong!) and did my best to not look like an idiot.  He remembered my name later which was pretty cool.  Seems like a chill dude and shared some of his writing tips.

Spider-Wars!  Just like the end of the 90s cartoon!  That would be cool.

Better than some of the official story lines.

It's kinda hard as a little kid to understand that smoking is bad for you when a robot is doing it.  What would be more effective is if you saw the Emperor light up.  Then you know it's bad.

I guess I'm late on this but I just got around to reading it.

It seemed to be another version of Knightfall in some way.  Where the enemy has to break Batman down before he can kill/defeat him.  Nothing really new and this made very little sense.  Knightfall was fun and I knew what was going on.  I had no idea what was happening.  I like Morison too so this was a big disappointment.  It's one thing to leave it up to imagination.  It's another to leave the reader to make up their own story.  So glad I borrowed it from the library than having to own it.

Sidenote:

I want to read a complete Batman story, not the middle of it.  A good story would draw from what happened previously and lead to new stories, while also giving the reader a complete adventure.  I should want to read the pervious stories to see what made the one I'm reading so good and want to continue reading future stories.  I read The Black Glove too and I'm still at a loss.  I get that these are references to old Silver Age stories but they're way too obscure.  Understanding Batman should be fun, not tedious research.

The 90s Batman cartoon will always be my favorite, but it's nice to see a fun show once in a while that showcases different DC heroes.

I would like to see:
- Constantine (I know he's Vertigo, but he's still in the same universe)
- Sand Man (Wessly Dodds)
- Swamp Thing
- Animal Man
- The Question (not as a cameo, but in the main story)
- Captain Cold
- Darksied
