Creature of Fear
In the summer of 1989 when I was around 6 years old, I lived with my dad, older brother and my grandmother in her house in Columbus, Ohio. At the time, my mother was living with friends out of town while she saved for a house. It was the first time I had been away from her.
One night I was woken by a thunderstorm, and got out of bed to wait it out in the living room armchair. I was missing my mother, and as I sat I became aware of a shadow in the hallway that my chair faced. I wasn't sitting correctly on the chair, but turned my head to see a creature about 3 feet tall. Being dark, I only saw the right half of this creature as the porch light caught it, but the lighting flashed enough to see the whole thing.
The short creature was green with small yellow spots, and had the body frame I can only describe as a fat sort of alligator. He walked upright on two short legs, tail dragging. His face was round and flat, and had two, large, perfectly round eyes. (The thing had no eyelids.) Its eyes had no whites, just golden irises with tiny pupils. His nose was long and hung down past his lips.
When I saw him, he was staring intently at me, but I was scared and turned away to try to ignore it. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched him walk closer to me while he talked. I wasn't sure what he said, because I was not listening. He must have seen that I was ignoring him, because the closer he got (he was walking slowly), the louder and harsher his tone got. At this point ignoring him was rather impossible, and I got the message he was yelling in my face. He said, "Your mother is never coming back!"
At this point I started crying, and when I looked around for him, he had vanished. I never told anyone.
Years later, when I was 19, I was sitting in my mother's house with my brother, and mom. (She did return, soon after my encounter.) My brother was talking about our grandmother's house back then, and eventually mentioned seeing an odd creature. I asked him about it, and his description of what he saw was spot on with mine. We both decided to draw the thing we saw separately, and then compare the two afterward. Our two drawings where identical in every detail. Our stories of what happened when we saw the creature were also remarkably similar, though the thing showed itself in a calmer light for my brother. It spoke to him, too, and simply said, "She's not coming home." The little thing obviously lied, but I'm still curious as to why, and to what exactly it was.
Done im gone ^^
