Marvel already DID a reboot. It was called the Ultimate Universe.
Only difference is, they did it right, the way DC should have...keeping the reboot a seperate line of comics for new fans, while keeping the regular ones going for when the novelty of the reboots wear off.
As many people have said before, no, Marvel does not need a reboot. Why? Because Marvel Universe actually changes with time. DC barely ever evolves or chances, literally the ONLY progress it ever gets is with the reboots it receives every ten years or so.
Let's compare Batman and Wolverine here for the sake of examples.
Batman is Bruce Wayne, leading a one-man war on crime as an act of vengeance for the death of his parents. No more, no less, he has not changed or evolved beyond that for half a century. He went through a few sidekicks, but he himself didn't really change.
Wolverine started out as a random canadian agent, a foe of the Hulk, then became member of a backup team of X-Men, slowly evolved to become the core of the team, then became a solo hero, then became an Avenger, and is now widely regarded as one of the most dangerous and unkillable men on earth. To boot, he was originally amnesiac, with no past, known only as "logan", and he had metal claws. Then later we discover the metal was grafted to him, his claws are actually bone, he was a Weapon X project, his real name is James Howlett, he struggles with the beast inside, and is now a perfect equilibrium of man and beast, killer and unkillable.
With Batman...he's never gone beyond or become anything more than "He's Batman." We never learned anything more about him, he didn't grow as a character, he's pretty static.
Same thing applies to other Marvel/DC heroes. For the most part, Marvel heroes change, age, evolve, move on, etc..DC heroes, though...don't. Not really anyway. We rarely learn anything new about the characters, they rarely ever change or react any differently.
Marvel heroes have history that shaped their character. DC heroes are just...there. They get a reboot every ten years to spice things up, that's about it.
My main gripe is that, at least with the other reboots, there was some sort of lead in, a big event, a Crisis. This one, though? It just happened out of nowhere, a blank slate.
Well, my other gripe is that Mr. Terrific gets Power Girl. Really? That lucky sumbich. How many decades of NOBODY getting her, then that little geek just gets the ultimate girlfriend? Lotta people are now gonna hate Mr. Terrific for that, lol.
