I picked up this issue because I was a huge fan of the 80s run and I only read the first few issues of the New 52 version but didn't finished it because I did not like the approach they were taking. That being said, I really enjoyed this issue, I appreciated the respect to the New 52 but by the end of the issue its clear we are going away from that version.

This issue was definitely bringing up a lot of memories from the 80s like General Eiling and Dr. Megala banter between each other, Captain Atom saving the day and even an appearance from the JL. Captain Atom, himself, sounds similar to his 80s persona as well as he really isn't questioning his power or his belonging in this world (not entirely at least and not in a depressing way either) as he is more occupied with trying to figure out what is going with his powers at the moment.

Plot wise was definitely just a build up to the real story (one that I hope is good) so I can only say that so far it looks like its going to be a step back to the Captain Atom we know from the 80s. Hoping we get that similar look as well!

Ahh, good old classic Captain Atom, the one everyone likes, not the weird Doctor Manhattan Captain Atom form the New 52. DC if you can see this, change up Captain Atom in the New 52 to be like his old self. The soldier who ends up being turned into a weapon of mass destruction.

Could not have said it better myself! It's clear they try to make him more like Doctor Manhattan but it just does not work for me. Especially the whole make him evil because he thinks he is like a god. Not the Nathaniel Adams I grew to love. Captain Atom is not a depressed guy. From my understanding, he was always adjusting to his new reality and trying to do what's right. If I could have one wish for post-convergence it's that the old CA look comes back!

Im glad this deal went through. Just proof that negotiations with studios can come to some sort of agreement.

More excited for Cap 3 now!

Did anyone else catch the only subtle Captain Atom reference? With Plastique dead, Captain Atom is sure to be mad! They killed his love interest!

Good move, now give him a sense of humor and then we have Green Arrow!

Personally Captain Atom can hold his own film. I'm talking about Pre-New 52 Captain Atom who had supporting characters and a cool story. He can have that appeal that Iron Man has in the sense that it's something that goes on top of the character. (Tony Stark had armor, Nathaniel Adams has metal alloy)

Sure, why not. I don't think they can go wrong unless they change characters that are not like their comic counterparts.

I wonder what their concept will be for this show, attempting to stop a big villain over the course of the season or individual cases that exploit how it is to live in Gotham.

This topic is one I have been waiting for. I break this down simply into the debate of what is an adaptation. To me, an adaptation is adapting an original story through a different direction. What people want from movies that are adaptation of comics, books, tales, biographies, etc. are what should be labelled Translations because it is translating one media into another media. Those adaptations that do almost direct copies 300, Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns animated, fall into the translation category. There will never be a direct adaptation because everyone has their own reason for interest or interpretation. Te best way to explain it is when we comic fans imagine how cool it would be for our favorite (or even non-favorite) characters to do or go through something fun, exciting and or challenging. While translation is what we want for the most iconic moments in comic book history, we will most likely continue to get adaptations because it is something that introduces the characters in a new way for both comic fans and general audiences much to our dismay when characters/moments are changed drastically.

I, a big fan of Quantam Hero (my mobile method of hiding spoiler content), am excited to see him every time he make an appearance in this since it doesn't seem he will ever make an appearance as a playable character. I hope he is not down because it doesn't seem that it was a fight rather a quick throat grab while landing. I'm hoping for a big showdown next issue with him involved. If that was it for my favorite character, then Taylor failed to see the potential with the character.
