I picked up this issue because I was a huge fan of the 80s run and I only read the first few issues of the New 52 version but didn't finished it because I did not like the approach they were taking. That being said, I really enjoyed this issue, I appreciated the respect to the New 52 but by the end of the issue its clear we are going away from that version.
This issue was definitely bringing up a lot of memories from the 80s like General Eiling and Dr. Megala banter between each other, Captain Atom saving the day and even an appearance from the JL. Captain Atom, himself, sounds similar to his 80s persona as well as he really isn't questioning his power or his belonging in this world (not entirely at least and not in a depressing way either) as he is more occupied with trying to figure out what is going with his powers at the moment.
Plot wise was definitely just a build up to the real story (one that I hope is good) so I can only say that so far it looks like its going to be a step back to the Captain Atom we know from the 80s. Hoping we get that similar look as well!
