This has been a good stretch for me-I've really been able to embrace my comic loving side, get back into art and music, and overall feel like i'm in a great place. Things are even better as my wife and I are announcing that we are having a baby in March. I'm truly blessed beyond anything I deserve. Gotta keep building the comic collection so the little one can learn to love reading just like I did-via Marvel and DC!
I have ComicVine to thank for getting back into comics, and Artist Showdown to thank for getting back in to character drawings. I've been working on a Western-themed graphic novel with a buddy, and am really enjoying art in general, but finding the Artist Showdown forum and entering contests has truly taken my art to a different level (for me, at least-so many artists in the forums absolutely blow me away). What I love is that artists of all calibers and levels show up and unabashedly put their art out there for others to see. Art was a huge part of my youth but I kept it to myself. Finding a place where I'm free to put my art out and find it accepted for what it is and not looked at as rubbish is so freeing and comforting. I'm a tennis player as well and I know that until you get away from the backboard or the idea of "just hitting around" and go out and play competitively, you don't really get better. I'm learning that art is the same way. Thanks to ComicVine for providing a place for ALL artists to flourish.
I grew up an only child, and comics were very important to me. They lead to a love of reading, much joy from making art, and the idea of grasping bigger concepts as a child. As I grew older, comics went by the wayside. One day I spent hours on Wikipedia (sorry CV-didnt know about you at the time) catching up on plot points and story arcs and found that I still had a great love of the characters that meant so much to me in my youth. Some of this interest was also spurred by the trend of comic movies. I've now found myself back in the groove and loving every minute of keeping up with the books I care about. I'm back into making art and working on self publishing my own graphic novel. Comic vine has been a big piece of getting back into the game with news and wiki info.
