Please let me know what you think as I finish and post my work. I'm just having fun with it but would appreciate honest comments. What you like or dislike. I am bit by bit fine tuning my work and hope to have something in the near future that everyone can enjoy at different levels. Thanks in advance for your opinions.... Although my profile name is DavidR, I did that to post a comment and used caution not knowing the website. If someone knows how I can switch my user name please let me know. Don't feel like re-doing a whole new profile. Thanks again,
I am not here to agree or disagree. To me there has been so much crap in comics that I lost interest for 17 years. I like a lot of what I have seen lately and it started the artistic juices flowing again. I like to do things on my own terms so I try to stay out of the limelight until I feel I get better. The stuff that's on Myspace is a reflection of somewhat as to where I am.
At this point I have a ways to go but in time I will post a professional portfolio online to a degree that I feel proud off. I am keeping my best stuff off the internet for the moment until I feel I can display a level that maybe others can truly enjoy. Over the years I have seen many copycats and really bad artists and wonder how they ever made it.
I know Greg's stuff maybe annoys and bothers some but just as with art I did not like, I just focused on the stuff that I felt I could learn from. Regardless of what people think, there is a lot that can be learned from his style. In some ways things that can be useful as well as things that maybe need to be avoided. I just don't let it bother me. Look at it and then I move on to the next piece of art by another artist. So much to learn from, so little time.
@castleking: I understand, my point is that if a person reaches the level of the top professionals, hands are not difficult. I was just noticing that you mentioned you are as good as the best.
I myself do not like to be to outwardly critical of others since I myself do not want to be judged so harshly. I draw to the best of my abilities and always push myself to improve on what level I reach. What I most of all want to accomplish is, art that is fun and dynamic to look at and a panel to panel layout that's enjoyable, easy to read and understand.
@castleking: Funny, not to be an ass but to draw with the best of them you shouldn't suck at drawing hands. Hands are not easy but the best of them don't have that problem.... : )
@castleking: No i'm not Greg, in fact I had not seen his work until today. I like the flash but find his story telling is boring. An inker is a tracer too, in essence. What he's done is just embellished work or photos of others. Personally I think everyone is way too harsh.
I too am an artist and do not think that this is a life or death issue to get worked up over. All the best artists at time will copy. I myself am too lazy to copy over someones work and find it easier for myself to actually draw all original work, (more satisfying) been doing it since I was 3. It's more fun for me. Tried copying and it was a hassle in comparison to let it flow from my mind to my fingers. Having a style like Greg's limits u too what is realistic. I like free styling it, as I said more energy pops into the page. I just started getting back into finding time to draw again. I feel I still have a ways to go but I got burned out years ago. I do it for fun at this time. Time allotted, I may be able to turn it into a profession, not sure being tied to my desk all day is were I want to be but I'm enjoying it now. Burned out years ago and should have stuck with it and pursued it...

I do not understand what the big deal is. His work is good, even if he copies or traces a percentage of it. Many artists in the field take shortcuts. Some of the greats use photographs all the time. His work is clean and it catches your eye. He is probably better suited to sell covers than maybe tell a story. Artists are people and they have to make a living.
All haters give the guy a break. Even if he traced it, it is a very labor intensive field to work in. There is a lot of art that is truly crap in the comic business. The style he chose is at least pleasing to look at. I myself have preferred the non photographic styles more due to the higher intensity and energy from the art. Photographic art is pretty to look at but can get boring quickly.
All in all from what I can tell, most of the people criticizing probably cannot even draw. Everyone has different tastes and if you don't like his move on. In time if you like the book but not the artist, sales may drop and a new guy will take his place. Give him a little respect. He did not get were he is at artistically without putting many, many hours of practice......
