That looks a lot more like Kitty's face than Jean's.

?

I dunno, maybe, but it's obviously meant to be Jean.

hmm. yeah.... it is her, but i remembered it being kitty for some reason.

i love how the cover to uncanny x-men #130...whatever one it is is one of the pictures

Shortly after this image was released, someone put it as the picture for Kitty on her character page (right here on Comic Vine); I remember noticing the mistake and pointing it out. maybe that's what you're thinking of?

@dangallant984: Using a small change in dialogue to make a solid case that they're different is reaching a bit much. I'm not saying you're wrong, but at this point it's a huge stretch and I'd ask you to do the same as I asked someone else - stop passing off (what is currently) a longshot theory as fact.

I really like this forum, but way too many people jump to a conclusion based (most of the time) on weak evidence and start spreading misinformation.

That's not what I'm doing. The events in the X-men #8 are the 616 version of the events; for them to deviate from that at all implies, by definition, that this is an alternate version of those events. It's not a stretch at all.

Just because they've traveled into the future doesn't mean that they could suddenly conceive a child who was born in a completely different timeline.

Remember, these two are still the Cyclops and Jean from the 616 - not some other versions from a different reality.

actually, they aren't the 616 Cyclops and Jean; they are from an alternate reality.

I feel like I've explained this several times in the last few months, but I'll do it again here. If anyone's read the X-men #8, they'll notice that the Beast's rant to Cyclops is a different rant from the one that young Beast delivers to young Cyclops in All-new X-men #1; the scene that takes place in the original series is what happened between the 616 characters, therefore, the fact that it is different at all prior to our 616 Beast arriving in their time is proof that it must be a different, alternate version of the characters. There's no other reasonable explanation for why that dialogue would be different.

The good news about this is that there's no reason to worry about what happens to these characters in regards to their 616 counterparts.

I'm no fan of Kitty Pryde at all, but she was great in ANXM #9. She checked Jean and pretty much told the team what they did wrong in the Danger Room session to the letter. It's also understandable that she's alarmed that Young Scott had a run-in w/ Mystique. So while I can't stand her, she did nothing wrong in this issue.

As for Bendis not writing the O5 correctly or as they were written in their day... that's kinda the point. He's writing them different b/c this is a different circumstance. We as readers as supposed to look at them as the O5 we all know and love who have been transported to the future they've been training to fight for. They realize things have been derailed far from what they hoped it would be and we're seeing how they all deal with it.

My point is that Bendis would be doing this story a huge injustice if he wrote them as they were in those old books b/c everything has changed.

Also they're from an alternate universe, so there's no reason they should be exactly the same.

I think that this is going to be Lady Mastermind trying to look like her father... anyway I don't think that they'll bring the Phoenix back soon.

gotta agree with this assessment. I hope so, anyway.

I'm enjoying this book quite a bit, but if the Phoenix comes back again, I'm done.

I still don't get Rogue's regression to her former outfit, but with a frumpy feel to it. Its like they are trying to regress her character (back to the rebel she was when she first joined) and using her old visual style to represent that. I still think you could get that feel with a more modern and stylish take on her Silvestri Era uniforms.

I agree with this assessment, but I hate to see Silvestri get the credit for John Romita Jr.'s design, especially after he turned it into a cheap Scarlet Witch knock-off. I thought Alan Davis drew it best though; him or Leonardi.

But I do agree that the X-men could still stand to be more fun, too. Or at least not quite so dire all the time. When is Cyclops' school gonna play baseball against Wolverine's? We can have it both ways.

I definitely would like to see Cyclops' school play baseball against Wolverine's school, but the way things are now, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

There's no good reason it couldn't though. To me, that would almost justify the Schism, and even AvsX, if that's what it was leading up to: them settling everything with a baseball game. Even if it was just a momentary truce for the sake of the students, it would still somehow make the whole thing worth while..
