@SC: we're not in favour of censorship, but would like people to think about what they're actually saying and see if they really mean it. yes, it's true about rape being used in other contexts but that's a bit different because at least it is still referring to something bad--in this case it completely distorts the meaning, taking a political/social/philosophical position (however one wants to describe feminism), and associating it with one of the most inhuman regimes in history
@RazzaTazz: yes, it's used in lots of cases, someone mentioned 'grammar Nazi' for example...but usually not for serious political opinion--at least in the UK where we're from, that sort of thing happens from time to time but is frowned upon in serious debate. there are still plenty of real fascists of one sort or another unfortunately
@OmegaDynasty: that's true, we don't agree with those uses either but those people can defend themselves...this is something we feel strongly about--not only because we are feminists, but given that we are and we haven't seen anyone else do it, we're just saying we think it is wrong.
@Vance Astro: we probably didn't express that last one perfectly--obviously there are some groups they are better than, for example Nazis! but we're sure you know what we meant
@Vance Astro: hopefully not many people use it, but we think if people don't challenge it early then maybe it will be more and more common. of course, feminists are not any better or worse than any other 'group' on average, sometimes that may be related to their beliefs and sometimes not
@theik2: well, wonder if that's not crediting some people who use it with more subtlety than they possess, but even assuming it's meant to be 'absurdist'--you didn't make it clear whether you think it is ok or not?
@warlock360: good, thanks, we never singled you out you realise--but it's silly to pretend you don't know the sort of thing 'Nazi' implies in the general use of the word.
@joshmightbe: that's true, we're offended by this one and think many other people would be. in the same way that certain words, there's no need for us give examples, are now considered 'unacceptable' in most circumstances, we suggest this one should be treated in the same way--on this site at least. do you agree or disagree?
