Kyle & Yost Choi & Oback X-Force is my favorite book right now because of this creative team. I hope this team stays on X-Force after Necrosha or hopefully during the upcoming story-arc. i think it sets-up future stories that could be fun to read. 5 out of 5 for me. Good review, G-Man.
For me solid 5 stars. Kyle & Yost / Choi & Oback are an amazing team. I agree with you there are a lot of sub-plots going on (I don't get the Wolfsbane & Hrimhari plot and how its going to tie into everything) but I enjoy reading about them. Kyle & Yost do an excellent job of featuring each character. The art by Choi & Oback just jumps out of the page and the capture of emotion is spine-tingling.
I would like to see X-23 to get the spotlight (looks as if she is going to in this arc). Not sure how she is going to turn out. She's supposedly a killing machine. Will this f*ck her up even more or when (or if) Wolverine and Angel and the rest of the squad try to save her, will it humanize her a little. I dunno. I can't wait for the next issues. I really hope they keep the creative team on this book for awhile.
This was by far the best out of the 3 Dark X Men: The Beginning.
The writing/art on all three stories were solid. The Aurora story was the best writing for me. I like the parallels Simon Spurrier makes between Aurora's uncontrolled schizophrenia vs. Norman Osborne's controlled emotions. I like how Aurora pushes Norman's boundaries and how there are hints of how close Norman can lose it at anytime. In terms of artwork, JOCK's was my favorite. I'm a fan of the dark, gritty style - which JOCK definitely brings.
Overall, this issue was a pleasant surprise. A solid 4.
On another note, John Layman (writer for Chew) is coming to Isotope Comic Lounge in San Francisco September 12, 2009. Are you coming? We exchanged pleasantries briefly when Geoff Johns was at the shop. You were 2 people behind me and I was with a couple of my buddies. Anywho, you have a cool site. I enjoy G-Man's and your comic book reviews.
