Having watched it earlier (in 2D), I more or less agree with G-Man's review. 3 out of 5 isn't bad, it's average and I think that's fair. There are some good moments and there are some flaws, but I think it's worth a watch. I hope there's a sequel and it improves on this, there is the potential there.

I'll be seeing it tomorrow. I had personally hoped Nathan Fillion would be Green Lantern while Reynolds would be Flash, that seems a better fit to me. This is the superhero movie of this summer that I've been looking forward to the most, so I'm hoping I enjoy it.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I think it's probably either inspired or a disaster.

If this is anywhere near as good as All Star Superman, than I can't wait. Grant Morrison is one of the few people I trust to overhaul Superman without ruining him.

I didn't read it. What did they say (and about what)? "
It was about Saturn Girl getting advanced warning that Lightning Lad was going to sacrifice himself. It was just an asterisk in Saturn Girl's narration of his death that the warning came in 304.

@THALASTDRAGON: To be fair, cataloguing everything someone like Superman has ever done would be a Herculean effort, even if you restrict it to canon. As would checking it every time you plot a new story. The editors and writers do try to keep track, though some are better than others. The latest Adventure Comics (#520) probably holds the record for longest call back in an editors note, to events in issue 304 from 1963!

A lot of superheroes suffer from a trope called "plot induced stupidity", mostly for dramatic reasons. Other times, writers do forget an issue has been dealt with or new skills learned, they could benefit form some kind of comic book encyclopaedia for reference.

As for why Superman doesn't use the weapons he has in the fortress, the question is, "why would he?" His fists and heat vision are more powerful than most weapons and his skin is tougher than any armour, so taking equipment out of the fortress just risks damaging it.

@Supreme Marvel: I used the tagline from the first Superman for that reason. Seeing Superman in action was the selling point of that film and Christopher Reeve is still seen as the definitive Superman because he made us believe he was. Of course he did a good job of Clark too, but no one goes to see a superhero film to see Clark Kent any more then they go to a Spider-man film to see Peter Parker or Batman for Bruce Wayne.

More rumours about it here. Anne Hathaway might be Lois. I've not really seen her in anything, but she looks and feels like a better fit than Kate Bosworth was. More worrying is that it sounds like it's going to be focussing on Clark's adventures prior to becoming Superman. Superman has one of the best known origins in comics and Smallville is still on the air, so I'm not sure if we really need more than a nod to his origins. I suppose if that's the first act, it's okay.

@Mainline: It sounds like the '76 law requires us to guess what two dead people might have done if they were fortune tellers! That does sound pretty crazy. Like I said before, they sold Superman to DC with neither party knowing that he would become massive. Action Comics #1 could have just as easily bombed and Superman would have been like so many characters of that era that only nerds like us know about. How many non-comic book readers know about Zatara or Scoop Scanlon and they were in the same book! If that was the case, owning the copyright for ten years or a thousand would have made little difference. Thanks for clarifying the case against Toberoff, he sounds like a real scumbag (allegedly).
