@Avenging-X-Bolt: Thank you for clarifying a comment I made (probably whilst drinking heavily) four years and seven months ago.

I think it looks better than the Superman one we saw a while back. I'm wondering if there'll be any effects added to it as it doesn't scream "advanced alien" to me, not like the Brando one did.

I enjoyed the issue, although I did find the whole "nobody's favourite superhero" a bit to meta. Aquaman maybe a punchline in our world, but I don't see why he would be in the DCU as he is (as evidenced above) a pretty tough and skilled hero and unlike our world, people would be aware of that from the news.

@BransonHuggins: Maybe if he had his underwear on the outside, he might keep his modesty. Generally, I don't eye other guy's junk. I wear a full suit in the bath so that I don't have to see mine. But that's so big it has it's own gravitational pull. I think the reason his costume looks dark is because light can't escape it.

It sort of reminds me of Ultraman's costume. I don't like it. They've ditched the classic underwear in favour of some generic, pointless black crap. When will Hollywood learn to leave these details alone?

And seriously, his "bulge" is distracting in these photos, what the heck is it going to be like on a cinema screen? I certainly don't want it in 3D!

I haven't read Ultimate Spidey in ages, but this doesn't sound all that different from what happened with Ted Kord as Blue Beetle. He died a tragic death and was replaced by Jaime. I am a fan of Kord and I became a fan of his successor because it never felt like he was being shoe-horned in for diversity's sake, there was a gap between Ted's death and Jaime getting the scarab, and he had good stories that established him as a very different hero. Of course, Blue Beetle's not as well known as Spidey so there wasn't major news coverage of the change whipping up a frenzy.

But really, we're all missing the major problem with the new Spidey: his ugly, ugly costume.

Personally, I'm a bit sick of putting stuff in the credits generally. As for releasing this, I think they could have waited for the film to be released everywhere (having to wait a week in the UK is another rant) for a couple of weeks before putting spoilers out.

The box office flop of Green Lantern and lukewarm reception of Superman Returns shows that general audiences want more than just superheroes simply just saving the day.
I would argue that Superman Return's biggest problem was that it had to much of the soap opera that you might see at Marvel (comics) and not enough of Superman being Superman.

OT I like a bit of both companies, though DC has always been my favourite. I seem to be shifting more DC recently and dropped a lot of my Marvel comics.

It's a story as old as time; boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy subconsciously creates a robot duplicate of girl, robot girl sacrifices herself to save boy from a deadly Zoltron belt just as the original girl returns. It's a classic.

@Kairan1979: Well, someone else has been cast as Superman since I started this thread. But Routh was great as Superman, the problem with Superman Returns was the story/
