Birds of prey history

I was looking over the 1st volume of the birds of prey and one issue (issue 26) showed bane crushing on black canary. That's either a fantastic idea or a terrible one. I'm not sure.

But my question is did that go anywhere?

Should Harley Quinn stay with the suicide squad?

Harley Quinn is one of the controversially changed characters of the new 52. One change is that she was now a member of the suicide squad. Now I picked up the first few issues when the first came out and I enjoyed them and the first volume of suicide squad seems to be getting good reviews but its after that people have a problem with this book.

The 2 characters that people think this book focuses on is Harley Quinn and Deadshot, (Most of the other characters seem to be fodder (not all but most) and even if they don't die the chances of being used again are slim). Now Deadshot is an under - rated character (at least compared to other bat - villains) so him staring taking the leading role in this book is good for him and his exposure. But Harley Quinn is a far more popular character that creators love to write about so the likely hood of her being in comic book limbo is unlikely.

The point I'm getting at is that having 2 "main" characters in a team book (I know a good team book co-stars all the team members but suicide squad is a special case) makes it hard for a writer to focus on writing a story that benefits both characters which isn't terrible.

So I was thinking what if Harley Quinn got to star in Detective Comics. You wouldn't have to cancel and restart the series plus a comic series like detective comics can have a revolving cast.

What do you think? Would you buy it?

Tim Drake / Robin volume 4 trades

This is the second blog I've dedicated to certain characters trades. Last time it was Stephanie Brown and now it's ex-boyfriend Tim Drake. The first trade collects the first 6 issues of Robin (and a showcase issue I think), but the next trade is called unmasked and collects issues 121 -126.

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE OTHER 120 ODD ISSUES?????

Now looking at the series it looks like the next 10 or so issues are tie-ins with other story arcs which makes it understandable why they aren't involved with the trades. BUT NOT ALL OF THEM ARE

Based off of the covers and the titles of the issues they look like good stories or at the very least entertaining ones.

Why would companys create a series and not make sure they can be sold again as stand a lone storys? It just seems lazy. I know that DC is big company and they can't be on the ball with every series and every character but it isn't like TIM Drake or Robin is an obscure character.

It just seems like a bad business practice (then again this is coming from the company that brought in Artemis to the new 52 simply to kill her off in the next issue as a shock tactic).

Well I'm done being annoyed thanks for reading.

My Opinion on Elektra by greg rucka ultimate collection

Let me start by saying though I respect Elektra as a character I don't know alot about her which is why I bought this trade & (Elektra: Assassin by Frank Miller).

The first thing I should mention if you haven't read the trade of the 2001 Elektra series there will be SPOILERS!!!

The first thing I noticed about this is that it starts at issue 7 (the first issue Greg Rucka worked on so I'm already behind a story arch (there's no real problem to it it's just a pet peeve of mine). Although since it's and the first 6 issue story arch was written by Brian Michael Benis I may of dodged a bullet.

A big issue I have with this trade has nothing to do with Greg Ruckas writing but is the fact the artist changes every 2 issues it's really hard to stay invested in a character when she keep changing. The art goes from digital to photo like to decent to ridiculously cartoony back to good again.

Now on to Greg let me just say that I generally like Greg Rucka's writing but here I have some issues. The main bulk of this trade is Elektra going through massive character development. She is faced with the monster that she is (a person who kills man, woman or child with no remorse regardless of whether or not they were her targets or just collateral damage). And decides after a brief suicide attempt that she wants to be more then just violence.

This story arch starts around issue 10 when Elektra is "fired" from her employer (they kill to kill her but she just kills them all). After a month of no jobs she begins to lose it and begins to pick fights when sensis of random Dojos and kill random bar thugs, after killing them she's about to kill herself but is stopped. A problem I have is that the "break down" of Elektra is that it happens to quickly in my opinion and it seems kind of random. After I thought about it for a while I came to the conclusion that she was suffering from some form of P.T.S.D (POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER), which can happen to some soldiers after they some back from war. The reason they gave was that she's addicted to violence & was going through withdrawal.

After being shown the horrors she has committed including killing the fiancée of the man whose showing her the error of her ways she decides to kill herself through snake venom. This is well done on Greg Ruckas part & I did enjoy it for the most part, but while being shown this Elektra seems to have the I.Q of a young child even calling her kidnappers Wheels (the man is called Jeremy Locke & he's in a wheel chair) & big (his friend called Philip Carson), now this could be because she is heavily drugged but it seemed strange to see Elektra the bad-ass assassin as innocent child-women.

After not dying she returns to her kidnappers to and get them to kill her but it doesn't work. They decide to try and help her become a better person by introducing her to Drake, a women who has been in a similar situation to Elektra. This part of the story gives good development to her kidnappers turn saviours. The issues following her training with Drake are good solid issues which show character development for both Elektra & her new sensi Drake. It even goes into Drakes past showing how she was once as lost as Elektra.

In the end she is forced to fight the hand with Drake, in the ensuing fight Drake is poison off panel and dies. This is where I'm worried for Elektra's supporting cast, if her Sensi someone who is better then her is killed then what hope do the rest of the cast have. Jeremy Locke is used as human bait to draw Elektra out while she asks his bodyguard & friend Philip Collins to assist her, he does.

By the end of it Philip is shown as a capable sniper even killing one of the main villains but dies & Jeremy Locke is killed off needlessly. The villain from the hands even taunts Elektra asking her why she hesitates when she has enough skill to kill him and save Jeremy but she kills them both by running her sword through them both. The trade ends there.

I'm not sure whether or not Jeremy dies at the end but if he did it seems like a massive waste of character development and story arc, the arc from unemployment (issue 10) to her becoming a student and wanting to change lasts until issue 22 . If she ends up giving in to the violence and becoming addicted again it is a very disappointing story arch. I know Elektra won't stop killing people it's made clear that she won't in the book but her realising that she's addicted to violence, trying to fight it & then giving in to it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth as a reader and as a new fan.

If someone read the 2001 Elektra series can tell me what happened afterwards and if this story arc made any difference whats so ever I would be most appreciative. And if your a fan of Elektra or thinking of picking this up I would recommend it. Despite my gripes with the art & possibly the ending Greg Rucka made me care for Elektra which is what any good writer should do.

Thank you for reading / listening to mini-rant / mini-review of this trade.

Best Wonder Woman stories / series?

I'm a big DC fan but shamefully I've barely read any wonder woman stories and by that I mean stories that happened within her book and not team books like JLA. The only real story I've read is Wonder Woman: Love & Murder. I've heard good things about the new 52 wonder woman story and will be picking it up in trade.

So I clearly need help with WW anyone got any suggestions@?

character continuity problems

I meant to make this blog ages ago but I forgot until now. I reacurring character in moon knight is his best friend Frenchie. During an old (but good) story arc Frenchies legs were crushed by his brother (or so we were led to believe). After it happened Frenchie was wheelchair bound yet in the 2006 run of moon knight Frenchies legs were amputated off and he was walking on crutches instead. More recent versions of Frenchie has his legs back and either sat in a wheelchair or gets around using crutches. Now I am not an artist or (in my opinion) a good writer but shouldn't basic facts about the character be known to the creative team in charge of the character? Another example of mis-communication is the xmen character toad. Since his movie appearence and ultimate appearence creative teams have messed up on his skin Pigmentation. Now whether the artist prefers him green or white (I prefer green) shouldn't be allowed to change a character in such a graphic way just because of preferene. The hulk was originally grey but changed to green because it was a cheaper colour then grey but what if now days an artist wanted to make him grey again, they couldn't simply change it ranodmly they'd need a good story and even then the change would be met with outrage and resistance. Shouldn't all characters be trated with the same respect / restraint? I would like to apologise I appeared to have gome off topic but i think the question is worth staying.

any other good stories about them?

I'm a fan of young avengers and recently bought the Dark Reign storyline and was wondering if there are any other stories involving the young masters (good stories)? Alot of the youngmastesr are under developed and could be interesting to read. A simple solution is to just give young avengers it's own on going as it deserves but until then I'll wait (or re-read childrens crusade). Although starting an on going after hte events of childrens crusade would be difficult and require a good writer. Also recently the character the melter (leader of Young Masters) appeared in Iron Man (I think in the story arc called the demon),is he written well or is he just used as a plot device?

I can't remember who she is?

I have a question about a minor moon knight character. She appeared in Marc Spector: Moon Knight and was an ally to his brother. She gave him indestructible skin or something like that, she was involved with Egyptian mythology and thought that Randall was meant to be moon knight and him beating Marc was a test & all she wore was a golden bikini.

Can anyone remember her name?

What if Donna Troy Joined the outlaws?

Originally i thought it would be a good way to show that Donna is still in the DC universe and her and Jason could bring out some interesting stories but then i remembered that not only was Donna Troy once dating Roy Harper he even asked her to a mother figure to his daughter. Emotions like that don't just vanish (even if his daughter is in the re-launch the point still stands).

If Donna dated either Jason or Roy it would lead to friction in the 'team' also could lead to some good reading if handled properly.

Who would you like Donna to date?
