Justice League:Crisis on Two Earths is based on a movie that was about to take place between Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.The movie was originally about the conflict between Justice League and the Crime Syndicate of the Antimatter Earth.It was called Justice League:When Worlds Collide.A lot of the ideas and concepts of the original were used in this movie.

Batman and Spider-Man are smart enough to defeated them relatively easy .Well maybe except Bane.

I think they chose those colors for the patriotic theme and because they are flashy. But that is just my opinion.

Superman and Batman are not just characters, they are icons. People still like them, movies,tv and animated series,toys are still made for them.Atleast that shows that people want them.As long as DC tries to keep them fresh and modern,younger readers will be interested in them.For the other characters you mentioned in your article, except Zorro, none of them reached Superman and Batman's level. They didn't become household names. I believe that Superman and Batman are still cool despite their age.
