If Vertigo keeps hs distance at the start of the battle he wins. He just flies out of reach, subdues Fantomex and then gets close for the KO. If Fantomex manages to hit first, he probably wins. Vertigo's flight is his greatest advantage here.

@tomkatie: @the_judge_since_83: Interesting hypothesis, but it has already been explained why Aquaman is more powerful than any other Atlantean.

It's a combination of things.

1) He is a royal Atlantean from the line of the First King of Atlantis, and royals are more powerful than other Atlanteans (check Geof Johns Aquaman or the Atlantean Chronicles from Peter David and his run). Plus being a royal gives him the ability to fully control Atlantean artifacts and mystical weapons.

2) He is a hybrid and benefits from something like you described. He is basically a super Atlantean or meta Atlantean or metahuman. He is much faster, stronger, more durable and heals faster than any other Atlantean. It has been confirmed multiple times in the comics. A direct quote from Secret Origins 2 (New 52 run) by Doctor Shin "An average Atlantean would be resistant to pressure but unlikely to be as strong as what Arthur exhibits. I postulate that this is due to the reintroduction of specialized genes separated by thousand of years of evolution." In Geoff Johns Aquaman, when Aquaman moves so fast that he appears to vanish, the Atlantean Elite forces that are with him ask "How can he move so fast?" and the answer is simply "He is not like us". In another issue Aquaman is being described as being as different from an Atlantean, as an Atlantean is from a human. Etc.

3) He is also a blond Atlantean, which is very rare and blond Atlanteans are more powerful than the average Atlantean, plus inherit the ability of telepathy.

4) He also had one powerup that stayed. The Water Hand is no longer in use, but during Peter Davids Aquaman he was permanently amped by Poseidon himself, after beating his son Triton in trial by combat. Poseidon said to Aquaman something like "So you want the power of a god? Here take it" and procceded to give Aquaman the power Triton was after. Aquaman went blind for the next issue and a couple more to adjust to that new status, but he was fine after that, and still is going by Rebirth.

Basically Aquaman has multiple sources of power, that stack with each other and their combination makes him even more powerful.

@seastone98: Yeah, but he mostly needs a series, even if it's a 5 issue mini. Focused on the current state of Atlantis in the MU, after Secret Wars.

But also some good feats.

He has been jobbing like crazy (which sucks cuz im 1 of da few ppl who like him) & i would honestly argue he is bellow current aquaman by a noticeable amount

This. Namor took that fall and survived. Aquaman jumps and lands from those heights constantly. Even outside of Earth's atmosphere. It's his way of travelling on land. Plus the speed difference between Aquaman and Namor is huge. Aquaman constantly has high hypersonic feats, covering miles in a second, while Namor's last good speed feat was going 400 hundred knots or something. Not even comparable.

Plus he got decapitaded by Hyperion's heat vision. Aquaman has tanked Superman's, Martian Manhunter's and even Amazo's heat vision constantly.

But I hope Namor get's some respect in the Secret Empire tie ins. If he loses to Cap one on one, it will look very bad though.

@soopahsoup: Aquaman simply thought he was in the clear, because he knows he is the fastest swimmer in the DCU. He just underestimated Murk, who had already confirmed no Atlantean can even come close to Aquaman's speed. Not even when using their best tech.

Confirmed multiple times by PAD, Johns, Parker, Abnett, etc

@lvenger: That doesn't mean Aquaman couldn't tank it. Just that Mera came to assist Arthur. It doesn't confirm that he can't nor that he can.

@waxonator: It happened in issues 22-23 of Morrison's JLA.

The order of the scans is 4,3,1,2.

A huge Starro (visible from space) blasts Orion outside of Earth's atmosphere, and Aquaman takes the blast point blank. Orion is KOed and his New God Tech damaged but Aquaman is conscious and able to use his telepathy on Starro.

In New 52 Aquaman was blasted repeatedly by Superman's enemy Neutron, who is basically a living nuclear reactor. Aquaman was fine after the blasts. And also withstood the energy from the Dead King's sceptre that sank Atlantis.

That would be History of the DC Universe 2, but it's not an actual comic, more of a pictures book.

https://comicvine.gamespot.com/history-of-the-dc-universe-2-book-two/4000-27540/

The first actual comic would be the first issue of the 1986 Aquaman 4 issue mini series, the story where the "blue camouflage" suit was introduced.

Ivan Reis is my no1, the others in no particular order. He draws the best action scenes, even huge groups, where every character is actually doing something with their powers instead of possing. He is also great at portraying movement and speed. His locations and enviroments are also very clear and you can always tell where evryone is. He can also do great horror, dramatic or quiet moments. His pencils are also exceptionally clean but also very detailed, without being to complex or tiring to look at.

Plus he can keep a monthly schedule, which some other great artists simply can't.

Case in point:
