I was thinking about diving into GL as well. I plan on reading Rebirth and the ongoing trades to get caught up. But I know Blackest Night/Brightest Day are the next steps - am I going to be beyond confused or will I know what's going on after reading Rebirth and the ongoing? 

I think I'm just going to remove it from my pull list and wait for all the Morrison TPB volumes, and then see what happens in November

Well I'm still confused. Grant said in the Batman panel 

Questions then opened to the audience. In regards to the rumor of Quitely returning for the final three issues of "Batman & Robin," Morrison confirmed that he will not. Instead Frazer Irving and Cameron Stewart wrap up the series.
