No HateIntended. I love the MCU.
I'm genuinely curious to hear from you guys. What is the appeal of making Spider-Man a dorky sidekick to other superheroes? It seems like everywhere I go, people keep talking about how much they love him being Tony's go-fer.
People were always dumping on Robin for being a sidekick to Batman, but for some reason it's okay for Spider-Man?
Personally I find it much more admirable and heroic when Spider-Man discovers his powers and more importantly himself on his own. In Homecoming he was completely eating out of the palm of Tony's hand.
During the confrontation scene he didn't even try to counter Tony such as asking him why the hell he wasn't told about the FBI and how did he expect him to know if all he got was radio silence. He's totally whipped.
So just why is it so "inspiring" for a character historically defined by self-reliance and self-reflection to be nothing more than a fanboy in over his head? Is it because the premise of a "superdork" lends itself easily to more comedy scenes? I'm not saying Spider-Man should be stoic like Batman either, nor am I saying that it's bad to like comedy. I'm asking if that comedy is the reason people love sidekick Spider-Man so much or if there's some other aspect I'm missing.
Thank you for reading.
