@inkbot01: I've actually already read dark knight returns and red son and enjoyed them quite a lot, being the well contained stand alone stories that they were. Specially Red Son, what I'm looking for is something like that but I am wondering if exists in the world of continuous issues

I've recently been enjoying many diverse graphic novels like Watchmen, and other different one-shots, I've also read the "important" mini-series in certain characters that I've been interested but I've never been willing to pick up a series and stick with it. My main problem with comics deals with longevity. Batman, Wolverine, Spiderman and Superman are still alive after 70 years, they die get resurrected, sometimes something "Fresh" happens but it can never break from a certain defined mold. In other words my problem is that they never truly grow as characters, they don't age, die of disease or suffer truly transformative character changes (and if they do 10-15 years later another author comes in and reverts them back). Is it really worth it to get into a series X-Men or Batman, knowing that it will be essentially endless (like Zelda)?
It seems to me personally, like this is the biggest problem or hurdle that impedes people getting into comics.
