There is so much missing from this story that is given no explanation - why is Spiderman all of a sudden at this fight? Why does Ben just give up? Quill was keeping Groot as a tooth pick all this time? Way to treat your friends buddy. When has Groot had THIS kind of power? Why should I care about most of the things happening? Like Maestro has been in 2 panels and I am supposed to fear/be worried/care about what happens to him? Thanos build up leads to the exact same ending as Phoenix scott build up. So many wasted plotlines. And doom seriously needs to actually do something to advance this plot. Last issue has Apocalypse throwing around some people and then in this issue he is just fried on the ground in one panel?!? What?!
One more issue and then that's me done with Marvel! Never thought i'd say it but there is nothing exciting or new on the horizon.
Is it bad to want Danny to just be the same as Danny from the Comics? Like I always assumed the white affluence thing was most definitely a key part because it made Danny realise just how important friends, honour, loyalty and so forth was.
Essentially he learned all the 'morally good' things about life and living away from that old life. It is not a case of Danny walking in to a more eastern orientated land and changing everyone else's mind about how to live, if anything it was the opposite. It is almost the easiness that is traditionally associated with the white male figure that Danny comes to look upon poorly because he is exposed to this other life, this other side. His character and development is routed in his background identity.
Brubaker and Fractions run, in fact, has so much importance on this idea of the outsider whose ways often are not the best. Orson Randall turning his back on honour for a drunken existence for example.
This is a fantastic four story in all but name. It shouldn't have been built up to the level it was. Galactus vs Ben Grimm while Dr. Doom is in charge? Reed Richards, Namor and Black Panther as the wild cards? The other Marvel characters are completely pointless. The whole survivors of the arc thing has been easily the biggest waste of a plot point in comic book history. Cyclops serving Zero purpose other than dying. A plot point that hasn't even BEEN GOD DAMN MENTIONED SINCE IT HAPPENED BY ANYONE IN THE STORY?!
While they (the 616 heores who survived) should have been the drivers, who we invested in, and the ones who made an impact on the story instead they are bit players at most in a completely redundant battle reserved for the Fantastic Four. Which for some reason had all of it's background and build up in three years of Avengers Comics. In fact I can't even recognize the 616 Carol Danvers, Thor, Spiderman (who got what so far, three panels?) in these characters so why have them survive at all? Why not just have Reed and Black Panther? They are the only characters who will do anything of note.
So exasperated with how this threw away almost limitless storytelling potential.
