Superman Meets The Orbitrons! (Hostess Ads #109)

On a site dedicated to making a wiki history of all things comics, comics ads should not be forgotten. Especially the ads for Hostess Fruit Pies, Twinkies, and other snacks. Starting in 1975, Marvel and DC heroes (and the Harvey,Archie, and Gold Key/Whitman characters as well!) spent seven years throwing Hostess snacks at a bizarre line of villains to stop their crimes. Although many of the villains were completely silly, they were created specifically for these ads, and in many cases, not even the names have been used again, since the ads stopped in mid-1982.

So I thought I'd show an ad here, and make a list of the comics I find it in, as I run across them. This list features: Superman Meets The Orbitrons! As noted on the Hostess Superhero Advertisements page:

Called out to investigate an outer space theft of gold, Superman encountered a race of golden spheroid aliens known as the Orbitrons. Sating their gold desires with Hostess Twinkies, Superman was able to rescue the alien miners and restore peace.

At first I was going to make a snarky remark about Superman mentioning "Earthmen" as though women don't exist but then I saw the aliens and I just about died because they remind me so much of these little creations made in Flock Draw that I used to have so much fun with!!

Still though, Superman seems so detached from the human race in this ad. What a cold, unempathetic pr*ck.

@lykopis: Yeah, I thought it was a bit presumptious to commit Earth to feeding these freeloaders Twinkies, but meh, whatchagonnado?
