DCB Fan-Fic Ideas

So, I've had this probably overreaching DC fan-fic idea for years now- a generational epic that starts in the 1930's, where the characters age, die, and get replaced (or don't). Kind of like the Superman & Batman: Generations mini-series, but Supes and Bats don't live forever.

The other half of it though is that it's kind of a mashup- names are getting switched to other characters. I've been working on this since the 1990's, on-and-off, and I decided that I need a list. This list will be the existing DCU characters, and the comment will be what their name is in my fic-verse (DCB). And maybe a little of their history.

Concise Listing:

  • Alan Scott
  • Amethyst
  • Batman
  • Bizarro
  • Carol Ferris
  • Donna Troy
  • Green Lantern
  • Green Power Ring
  • Guardians of the Universe
  • Hippolyta
  • Joker
  • Krypton
  • Mogo
  • Oa
  • Starheart
  • Superman
  • Wonder Woman

List items

  • Superman... still. One of the few that doesn't change. Starts in the 1930's. Eventually dies in a fight with Bizarro. Basically, it's the Doomsday fight, but Bizarro instead of Doomsday.

  • Bizarro is the imperfect duplicate of Superman. He's talked into killing Superman by another villain- I'm leaning towards Owlman. Ruler of Htrae (Bizarro World) he has an army of Bizarro-Supermen at his disposal.

  • Batman... another with no change. Starts in the 1930's. I give him basically the Earth-2 life- marries Catwoman, has kids, and either his son or his sidekick succeeds him as Batman. This starts a chain of Batmen through history... a League of Batmen.

  • I'm thinking of the gimmick-using version, more than the cuts-his-face-off version. May call him Toyman or possibly The Creeper, but haven't decided.

  • Fury. Starts in the 1940's, during World War II. Eventually returns to Paradise Island to resume rule of the Amazons. With long life granted by the gods, she is still alive into the 1970's.

  • Star Sapphire. Forget that Purple Lantern crap. This is the old school version who has the one Star Sapphire and the exact look that the Zamarons look for in their queen. She is queen of the Zamarons. As the Zamarons are basically space amazons, Fury and her Amazons are her enemies.

  • Peacemaker. Princess Diana comes to the USA during the 1970's. Her stint as superhero is interrupted by the death of Hippolyta, and she has to become queen of the Amazons. This is further complicated when she defeats Star Sapphire, and the Zamarons declare that she has the look to be queen of the Zamarons. Diana replaces the red star on her tiara with the Star Sapphire, and becomes queen of two races. When she starts to show signs of age, she starts wearing the Mask of Proteus to keep the youthful appearance the Zamarons require in their queen. Eventually, her mystical twin Donna Troy takes over her role as queen of the Zamarons.

  • Eventually taking over from Peacemaker as Queen of the Zamarons, Donna also inherits the Lasso of Truth. Eventually she grows weary of others defining her by her look, so she dons a blank face mask, and using the Lasso, she becomes The Question.

  • Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld. She is more than the bumbling teenage girl trying to figure out her magic that was in the 80's series. She's much closer to Dr. Fate's level of power. Some mystical gems in the DCU give her ties to big power players, including Green Lantern (the Starheart), Superman (the Starheart), Peacemaker (the Star Sapphire), Sargon (the Ruby of Life), and the mystical amber from Forever Amber. There's almost certainly ones that I am forgetting.

  • Krypton was a living planet like Mogo- a mystical being. When Kem-L unleashed the Eradicator techno-virus to bind Kryptonians to Krypton lest they die, the planet reversed it, making it that they'd only die if they returned. The strain of keeping it that way is what eventually caused Krypton to explode.

  • Most of Krypton's essence flowed to a planet in the center of the universe, and became the power source that would one day enable the Star Corps.

  • Mogo followed the essence of his other half, and remained close to her the only way he knew how- by becoming one of the Star Corps.

  • (object) The Starheart is the heart of the once-living planet Krypton. A mystical object that tumbled through space, and wound up landing on Earth. A piece of it was carved into a green lantern and a ring.

  • Some years later, the lantern and ring fell into the possession of Alan Scott, who became the Green Flame. Before that name could become widely known, a news photographer caught a picture of him descending with his lantern, and the news called him the Green Lantern. Because the ring and lantern are pieces of and powered by the Starheart, Superman cannot be near him.

  • The Controllers. The little blue men of Maltus had sought knowledge in every realm possible, including the realm of the supernatural. They were drawn to Oa to understand the mystical energies that were housed there. Being the most intelligent beings in the universe, they were able to understand it and master it easily, and the essence of Oa was happy to sustain them as it once had the people of Krypton. The Controllers wished to extend this knowledge to the universe, but needed a way to channel the power to less developed beings. They were unsuccessful until Green Lantern came across their path. He told them the energies were mystical, which they balked at. To them, the energies were merely something that responded to the proper will. Alan willed a copy of his ring and gave it to the Controllers, challenging them to unlock its secrets with their science.

  • The Controllers did so easily, and having witnessed Alan Scot copy the ring, were able to duplicate it themselves. They made enough rings to form an entire corps of enforcers for the stars- a Star Corps. Being sustained and empowered by the soul of the planet Krypton, they were drawn to the presence of Krypton's last survivors as if to a beacon. Not wanting to endanger the last of an entire race, the Controllers developed Gold Kryptonite, which took away the power of the Green Kryptonite, and in sufficient quantities, could even depower Kryptonians. They infused each ring with just enough Gold K to keep them from being deadly to Kryptonians- a necessary yellow impurity that unfortunately made the rings vulnerable to anything in that color's wavelength. Sufficient will can overcome this weakness, making the rings the most powerful weapons in the universe.

  • Starman. Any member of the Star Corps is known as Starman.
