@kfhrfdu_89_76k: Thanks, I had fun with this one. There were a few sports names I recognized growing up, and Pete Rose was one of them. I was actually really disappointed when I heard about the gambling. I'm glad he got past that scandal though.

Yes. I do believe your apology was in order considering what you decided to share. I mean, not for anything (I am trying not to be mean here) but compared to all the other Jockey athletes/models, did they REALLY have to go with him? It's almost like a parody...

As for his lovely girlfriend, I have no hesitation in guessing they have a lot in common. Primarily an investment in a couple of assets. *ahem*

@lykopis: Yes, they had to go with him- Pete Rose was a big deal at one time. He really got raked over the coals for the gambling. Yes, it's against the rules and unethical, but they denied him entrance into the Hall of Fame over it. His athletic achievements in baseball were not affected by the gambling. He should have gotten his place in the Hall of Fame.

The asset guess might be a good one.

Denying him into the Hall of Fame isn't right. When you have the likes of Tyson running around (I know, different sport but still) I would think something like a gambling scandal shouldn't prevent giving someone their due in terms of the contribution to a sport. He sounds pretty important to baseball.

@lykopis: I don't know if they reversed that decision later or not (and forgive me for being lazy, and not opening another tab to search on it). I think there was at least some talk of it being too harsh. There were one or two other things going on at the time, and Rose became "the example." Honestly, I think his records have been broken by now (again with the not researching, sorry) but he still deserves his place in the Hall of Fame. Seems a shame. I think it leaves a bigger black mark on baseball to not let him in, than it does to bar him for something that had no effect on that achievement.

@lykopis: Yeah, the processes get very politicized, and then it all goes to pot. An Oscar's one thing- that's based largely on opinion- some of it the perceived public opinion, assumed by looking at sales records. Baseball's another thing- there are hard cold facts there- actual statistics to show the achievements of the players. Gambling didn't affect the number of hits Rose had, unless he threw a game to accommodate his bet...but that only hurts his own statistics. The possibility that his hit ratio may have been even higher, had he not been gambling, only makes his records more impressive.
