Comic Ads are more than just the mountain of Hostess Ads we know and love. Over the years, many a company has used one page comic ads to shill their products in the pages of comic books! So I thought I'd do a list series that showcases those ads, and shows you what issues I've found them in. To me, these are as much a part of comics history as any superhero, and I love 'em for the nostalgia they bring. I hope they do the same for you. Enjoy.
Aw, she had me at "I wish I were a chocolate cake that goes oink! oink!" Here's some pictures:
Nancy Nonsense -- no idea about the doll itself but it is amazing how arbitrary the number of sayings is. Pointing out rooted blonde hair and blue eyes is another thing you wouldn't see now-a-days either.
Good on you for finding those pictures as well -- the perforated chest would have scared the be-jeesuz out of me as a kid. A similar doll I got my hands on as a kid was known to spontaneously speak out in the middle of the night so one claiming flying pigs and oinking chocolate cakes would have found its way to a corner of my closet as well. ;)
@lykopis: After "I wish I were a chocolate cake that goes oink! oink!," I've been trying to imagine what 216 things they could've come up with for her to say. I thought the rooted blonde hair thing was kind of weird.
As for the pictures, Google Images is a wonderful thing. I have plundered the Internet for many a picture for these lists. :)
