Mr. Fantastic in "A Passion For Gold" (Hostess Ads #5)

No Caption Provided
On a site dedicated to making a wiki history of all things comics, comics ads should not be forgotten. Especially the ads for Hostess Fruit Pies, Twinkies, and other snacks. Starting in 1975, Marvel and DC heroes (and the Harvey characters!) spent seven years throwing Hostess snacks at a bizarre line of villains to stop their crimes. Although many of the villains were completely silly, they were created specifically for these ads, and in many cases, not even the names have been used again, since the ads stopped in mid-1982.

So I thought I'd show an ad here, and make a list of the comics I find it in, as I run across them. This list features: Mr. Fantastic in "A Passion For Gold." As noted on the Hostess Superhero Advertisements page:

The intangible, gold-covered villain Goldigger engaged Mr. Fantastic in a citywide duel that continued to end in a stalemate. Needing to ruin Goldigger's concentration, Reed presented his foe with Hostess Twinkies; the distracted villain was then wrapped to the nearest lamppost.

It should be noted that Goldigger is very reminiscent of Marvel's Goldbug, who first appeared two years before this ad, in Luke Cage, Power Man #41. They're not completely similar, but I do a double take every time I run across this ad.

*******

Concise Listing:

Alphabetical:
  • (3/80) Marvel Super Action #17.
  • (2/80) Shogun Warriors #13.
You Get A Big Delight In Every Bite <4 (Hostess Treats) 6> Enjoy.

The list below is in chronological order.
