Here Are Some Easy Steps For Proper Dental Care! (Comic Ads #22)
Comic Ads are more than just the mountain of Hostess Ads we know and love. Over the years, many a company has used one page comic ads to shill their products in the pages of comic books! So I thought I'd do a list series that showcases those ads, and shows you what issues I've found them in. To me, these are as much a part of comics history as any superhero, and I love 'em for the nostalgia they bring. I hope they do the same for you. Enjoy.
At first glance, this would appear to be a PSA, rather than an ad, but when you see the Aim toothpaste in two panels, and the Pepsodent toothbrush in another, you realize that yeah, it's an ad. This was actually part of Exclusive Collectors' Edition: Spider-Man, but the rest of the comic was actually a decent (and at times hilarious) story. This page was at the end, and it's the only page I noticed promoting Aim or Aim products. Spider-Shill is in full on endorsement mode in this ad, so remember: he doesn't actually brush with it. Still, it's fun.
@batkevin74: Not with the same name as the toothpaste! lol Believe me- the story they gave was fricking amazing, for a few small little reasons. I'm working on my review. :)
"First my date with Mary Jane goes wrong...then I clash in with shocker and loose...my rent`s late...and now I have to endorse toothpaste for some reason! Parker luck never changes, does it?"
@cbishop: I really did. And while primarily an advert, there is something heartwarming about Spidey reminding his fans to take good care of themselves. Very cute indeed. It is great how much you are putting into collecting these old ads together.
@bumpyboo: I'm having fun with it, and I've seen an unexpected bonus to it. Not a bonus for me, but a bonus for search engines- by making the title of the ad into the title of the list, it creates a page that a search engine (Google, at least) can find easily, and I'm seeing these ads pop up in the first two or three links in a search. I wasn't expecting that when I got started on the Hostess Ads, but it really feels kind of cool to have done something that makes them a little easier to find. I'm hoping that continues as time goes on. :)
@kfhrfdu_89_76k: ??? Are you continuing the internal Parker monologue Batkev' and I suggested above? If not, you lost me. :/
