"Get It All Together" (Comic Ads #26)

Comic Ads are more than just the mountain of Hostess Ads we know and love. Over the years, many a company has used one page comic ads to shill their products in the pages of comic books! So I thought I'd do a list series that showcases those ads, and shows you what issues I've found them in. To me, these are as much a part of comics history as any superhero, and I love 'em for the nostalgia they bring. I hope they do the same for you. Enjoy.

It's 1974, and CIE is at it again, out to hype you about the special electronics skills that only Cleveland Institute of Electronics can give you! And they have a specific target with this ad- not just the jobless, no prospects high school dropout, but the jobless, no prospects serviceman! How effed up is that exactly, that our ads sledgehammer home the fact that we haven't made a way for our veterans to reintegrate into civilian life? Sheesh.

Heavyhanded as it may be though, there's Joe in his fancy suit, arm around his beautiful light haired girlfriend (no ring on Joe's finger!) having dinner at what must be a sidewalk cafe. "Must be," because fellow veteran Pete wanders by in a not-so-dressy turtleneck, and they strike up a conversation. Joe wastes no time telling Pete how great his life is going, and encouraging him to also take up electronics, because "It's the science of the Seventies, man."

What's great to me about these CIE ads is that it doesn't seem to matter what decade they were targeting- a great career in electronics always hinges on those two little free books! It must have been working for them though, because they are still around today.

I decided to clip the coupon out of the picture this time around, but you can see it below, along with the full page ad, if you're a stickler for that kind of thing.

I like the newspaper look of it.

@kfhrfdu_89_76k: Yeah, the art on some of these amazes me. It's just great that people actually look like people in this, instead of bodybuilders in spandex.

That`s because they`re wearing suits. If they`d take `em off, they`d look like a regular Bruce Wayne. I`m certain.
