B: TPB-Sides

I just started working on a series of lists called Comic Book Disco, detailing every comic I've ever collected (yes, I have records of that). The things is: I have a lot of trade paperbacks too. I thought about it, and I don't really want to mix my TPB's in with all of the single issues in the Disco, so I decided to make separate lists for them. This is getting a little bit on the crazy side, so we'll see what happens. In the meantime, thanks for checking out my collection.

You are now on the TPB-Side of the B volume. Enjoy. <A (Disco Fever) C> (Flipside)

I figured you'd have a lot of Batman, lol.

@lykopis: Why'd you figure that? But yeah, I like Batman. I haven't touched it since New 52 though (sooo much stuff to catch up on).

For the length of time you've been collecting comics, it would be shocking otherwise.

@lykopis: True. I was around when DC, Marvel and Archie were it. :)

Sure, he`s wordy...and not one of my absolute fafs...but he`s a good witer...so, therefore, I`m sad that...

You don`t like Ellis. = (

@kfhrfdu_89_76k: I hate to sound all censorship-ish about it, but I prefer Ellis at Marvel or DC, where his full inner pervert isn't given free reign on the page. I have a very low opinion of both Ellis and Mark Millar, who have great talent, but overshadow said talent with pages full of perversion and foul language, just "because they can." If you've never read "Crooked Little Vein," save your money. It's literally one perverted sex act after another. I'd have thrown it in the trash, but a) I just can't bring myself to throw books away, and b) I'm one of those people who has to see how the book ends once I've started it, no matter how bad it is.

I'm not a prude. Sex and curse words have their place. In fiction though, there's "in context" and "overdone." Ellis and Millar go into "overdone" like they're looking for the abyss on the far side. And the overdone might not be so bad, were it not coupled with this strange attitude that some of the superstar writers and artists in comics have, that tells them it's okay to expect fans to buy their next indie title blindly, but use that same indie title to crap on the industry that made them superstars to begin with. It's just kind of weird and twisted to use your work to biotch about the industry, and expect to make a buck off of that venom too.

Frank Miller, in my opinion, is one of the worst for spewing venom about the industry but continuing to work in it. He isn't in the same category as Ellis and Millar for me though, because he at least knows how to keep it in context, and how not to tread on fan-loved favorites while doing it. ...With the exception of his portrayals of the DC Trinity in Dark Knight Returns, Spawn/Batman, and All-Star Anything-he-was-involved-with. Then his animosity is clear.

I am a big fan of indie comics and creator-owned anything, so it's not that I think DC & Marvel should rule the industry. But DC, Marvel, Archie, Harvey, and Gold Key/Whitman/King kept comics alive long enough for us to get to the creator-owned era. Anyone working in comics now grew up reading those companies' characters, and more respect should be given. You can respect the properties without approving of how the companies pay the creators.

Sorry for the rant.

I side with you 50 %, on this subject. I side with the creators, 100 %. Together, my biases towards each way of thinking, combines to another way, that would be too long and (possibly) too convoluted to post here. And far too fake intellectualistic, some would say. Up theirs, I say. Okay, think. I probably couldn`t say it, since I would be afraid of the probably negative consequences.

If you want (and out of harmful interest, you do), I can send you a link later on, that sends you to my documented thoughts.

@cbishop:

How...suggestive...

When it`s done. In a month. Or two weeks. Or 1000 years.

@kfhrfdu_89_76k: LOL! Nice catch! Looking forward to it...and you can take that any way you'd like. <--That's not meant to be suggestive, but I can see how you might find it to be. ;) :P
