We all have trade paperback (TPB) collections we'd like to see. Here's one of mine:

Proposed Title:What If? Thor.
Alternate Title:Thor: What If?.
Collecting 9 Issues:
Covers: (click to enlarge)
TPB Cover: What If (1989) #12

This would be a nice sized collection of Thor stories, from the What If? series. Most of them don't actually focus on Thor, but on Thor and others, or those who might have gained the hammer of Thor, other than Don Blake. Still, when it's Jane Foster, Loki, or Rogue, those are interesting stories. However, when you also get the Avengers, Conan the Barbarian, the X-Men, Asgard and Galactus, now you have an epic collection!.

For the cover, I'd be tempted to go with WI ('77) #10, with Jane Foster-Thor (Thordis), but the pose has been used on umpteen covers. I think I'd rather go with WI ('89) #12, with Storm-Thor crossing hammers with Frog-Thor, but with the background recolored to something besides pink.

Would you buy it? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for reading.

Good lord, I would LOVE to get a TPB like this.  I recently found a copy of the What If: Mirror Mirror TPB at a Goodwill (it had the Herald of Galactus issue) in it.. talk about luck!

@Ry Fryy: Yeah, Mirror Mirror was a collection of that year's What If one shots.  So far the only collections of the series have been the What If Classic TPB's, and they're collecting 5 issues at a time, in order (Vol. 1 reprints #1-5, Vol. 2 #6-10, etc.).  I'd much rather see them grouped like this, by character or team.

@cbishop: I'm considering just buying the individual issues eBay.  Unfortunately some of the older ones (still in good shape) are really expensive.  :-/

"What If Loki Had Found the Hammer of Thor" I've never read and I really want to.

I think that Loki issue would be pretty cool too.  I don't think I had ever seen that cover until I was putting this blog together.  If you have access to a local comic shop (LCS) you should really check out their bargain bins.  Some stores really price the What If's way up there, but I'm finding more of them that are starting to throw them in the cheap bins.  I think with the What If Classic TPB's coming out, retailers aren't getting as much for the back issues.  I could be wrong on that though.

YES!  I found a copy of the Loki issue at a small comic convention the other week.  I haven't read it yet but I'm excited!

@Ry Fryy: AWESOME!  Let me know if it's good or not! :^D

Sure, i already own four of those stories, and I cherish them to no end. A TPB of them would be perfect and allow me to read the ones I haven't yet!

@SC: I have WI (v.1) #25, WI (v.2) #38, 107, and the 2006 WI? Thor.  I'd really like to read the others.  What I really like about this collection is I didn't have to pad it with any one-shots or crossovers, to make it a decent sized collection.

I too have issues 12, 66, and 107

@william knowles: Sweet!  Is the Rogue story any good?  It looks cool.  I like the very idea of #12, because I loved the original story (available as X-Men: The Asgardian Wars TPB). :)
