We all have trade paperback (TPB) collections we'd like to see. Here's one of mine:
|Proposed Title:||Jemm, Son of Saturn.|
|Collecting 12 Issues:||Jemm, Son of Saturn #1-12.|
|Covers: (click to enlarge)|
A few cool mini-series came out in 1980's, including Spanner's Galaxy, Conqueror of the Barren Earth, and this...ah...gem...Jemm, Son of Saturn. I liked Jemm because it had twelve issues and it introduced us to a new character. I was sure he'd be a major new hero...until they sort of ripped off the Elliot/ E.T. relationship for Luther and Jemm. Still, overall, this was a decent story, and Jemm has appeared a handful of times since then, including several issues of the 1998 Martian Manhunter series. This would be pure nostalgia for me, but I would love to see this maxi-series (there's a term that never quite made it) reprinted..
For the cover, it's kind of a tough call. There's always the possibility of simply going with the first issue cover, and that wouldn't be bad - it's a good shot of Jemm in action. Issue #4 is great, with Jemm battling Superman, but it's not a true representation of the story inside, because Superman only appears in that one issue (maybe at the end of the previous issue as well). Issue #12 is a nice, centered image of Jemm and Luther, which is what the story's about, but would anyone buy the TPB based on that image? Issue #3 is a little more ambiguous of an image, but it's one of the best shots of Jemm.
However, I think the best image to use for the cover is the DC house ad that was used to promote Jemm, Son of Saturn. It's the image that made us want to buy the series in the first place. Why wouldn't it work as the cover of the book? Just remove "From the new DC. There's no stopping us now!," and (sadly) replace the old DC Bullet with the new DC symbol, and voila, great cover for the trade!
Would you buy it? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for reading.
