Would U Buy It #7: "What If? Captain America"

We all have trade paperback (TPB) collections we'd like to see. Here's one of mine:

Proposed Title:What If? Captain America.
Alternate Title:Captain America: What If?.
Collecting 14 Issues:
Covers: (click to enlarge)
TPB Cover: What If (1989) #28.

I included the Invaders issue because it relates to Cap. This would just be fun. There are a few versions of "What If Cap' Were Revived Today," a few different takes on him forming the Avengers, and a few unique stories. From issue #38, just the Cap story would be included.

For the cover, I'd go with What If (1989) #28, because it's a shot of Cap and a group of Cap-clad super soldiers, in the Iwo Jima raising the flag pose. It's an eye catching cover.

Would you buy it? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for reading.

I would be tempted to buy it.  I always enjoyed the What If? series.  Especially the original series in the 80's.  They were fun stories to read.

@fedspaz: Man, What If?, Elseworlds... I love a good alternate history story.  I think it's funny that both series asked "What If Captain America were revived today?"  The collection of Phoenix related What If's outshines this one though, for asking the same question.  More "What If Phoenix hadn't died" stories than you can shake a Cosmic Cube at.

I want to read these really badly thanks for showing them they looks entertaining and interesting

@GT-Man: No problem.  I highly recommend any What Ifs and Elseworlds.  Usually, the only disappointment in the story is that there isn't more of it.

Yeah, I'd buy it.  I'm a long-time, big-time Cap fan and I'm sure I'd remember some ot these and enjoy them all.

I would buy the What if? What if Iron Man had died instead of Captain America?

PowerHerc & IronMan: sorry it's taken me over a year to get back to you guys - I haven't been online a ton. Thanks much for the comments. :) That's why I've grouped the What If issues by character - I think they'd sell better that way, rather than the Marvel Classics' way of just straight Vol 1 = #1-5, Vol 2 = #6-10, etc.

I would buy "What if Captian America gave you this book for free instead of charging you" I would buy that one so fast

Edited by cbishop

Yeahhhh, I don't think that's going to happen, but keep your fingers crossed for Free Comic Book Day. o.O

Very nice...but now we have to wait and see if Marvel take up your idea

Edited by cbishop

Unfortunately, I don't think Marvel will pick up on this. They've already reprinted most (maybe all) of the original series in their What If Classic line of TPB's, so they don't really have a motivation to reprint them again, the way I'm suggesting. Although personally, I think that even with the What If Classics out there, people would still snatch up character specific collections, like this one. It's just natural that readers are going to be more attracted to an entire book of a favorite character, rather than one that includes stories they may not care about.

I agree.

I'd buy it.

I have three or four of them listed and they are still my favorite comics of all time . I LOVE What if and I'd buy it for sure.

@Tigerstriper & Enosisik: Thanks for the votes! :)

It would be cool. I would buy it if it was cheap.

Posted by cbishop

@TheCannon: Cheap is always nice. Now that the older stories have been recolored for newer paper and printing types, for the What If Classics TPB's, a character specific collection should be cheaper to produce. Hopefully, that would make the finished product a little cheaper, retail, but I wouldn't hold my breath. ;}

Yeah. There are several books I would like to buy, but there just too expensive.

How about What If Captain America won Civil War?

Posted by cbishop

@captainamerica119: Is that part of "What If: Civil War?" If it is, and it's not on the cover, I wouldn't know about it. I've missed some of the newer ones.
