Would U Buy It #51: "Superman: The One-Man JLA!"

DateWUBI # 51:View:Attached to Forum:Back/ Next
11/16/10Superman: The One-Man JLA!(Blog) (Forum)Superman(Back) (Next)

We all have trade paperback (TPB) collections we'd like to see. Here's one of mine:

Proposed Title:Superman: The One-Man JLA!.
Collecting 4 Issues:
  • Superman #147.
  • Adventuers of Superman #570.
  • Action #757.
  • Man of Steel #92.
Covers: (click to enlarge)
TPB Cover: Four way split, showing all 4 covers

I honestly have no idea what this story is about, outside of a guess. I love a "what if" scenario, and from the looks of the covers, I'd say it's "What Superman might have been, had his rocketship landed on other planets." It's within the various Superman titles though, so I'm very curious to see how they pulled that off inside of the continuity. It's just one that I've always wanted to read, but never quite got around to finding all of the issues for.

For the cover, I'd split the cover into fourths, each panel being one of the pics from the four different single issue covers. I think it would be the best way to convey the idea of the story within.

Would you buy it? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for reading.

I haven't read it either, but I have most of the issues in my unread back issue collection. Some of them were co-written by Mark Waid which makes this storyline one of the few times Mark was allowed to write Superman. The main writer, Tom Peyer, is also pretty good and was one of the co-conspirators in the proposed Superman 2000 revamp ( http://superman.nu/a/ges/2000/ ) along with Waid, Mark Millar, and Grant Morrison. So I bet it's actually pretty good. I'll let if know what I think if/when I reach that storyline in my back issue readings.

@Emperor Gonzo Noir:  I'm always amazed at what can be found in the back issues. :)

@Jekylhyde14: Please do let us know!  It'll probably be awhile before I have the fun money to hunt these down (unless they should appear in quarter bins).

i like this series it was nice, have to say when he was a gl i never saw him use the ring as a shield once it was mad. if superman was a gl man alot of ppl would get smoke his powers with a gl ring that was a nice concept the cape thing was a bit corny since i cannot think of ever seen 1 gl with a cape

Thanks, all.  I think it'd be great, but DC doesn't seem to be quite as interested in reprinting their older material, as Marvel is.  The older material DC has reprinted in TPB has been awesome - I sure wish they'd do more.

That last cover is crazy, why didn't they color his skin green?

I'd check this one out at least.

@Demas: The cover to that one says "From Krypton to Mars," so I'm sure he's supposed to be Kal-El as a Martian in that, although I'd have to read the story to see how they explain him gaining Martian physical attributes.
