Would U Buy It #15: "Thor 2099: The Fall of the Hammer"

DateWUBI # 15:View:Attached to Forum:Back/ Next
10/06/10Thor 2099: The Fall of the Hammer(Blog) (Forum)Thor (McAdam).WUBI #14.

We all have trade paperback (TPB) collections we'd like to see. Here's one of mine:

Proposed Title:Thor 2099: The Fall of the Hammer.
Collecting 7 Issues:
  • Spider-Man 2099 #15-16
  • Ravage 2099 #15.
  • X-Men 2099 #5.
  • Doom 2099 #14.
  • Punisher 2099 #13.
  • 2099 Unlimited #4.
Covers: (click to enlarge)
TPB Cover: Spider-Man 2099 #15
TPB Cover: Spider-Man 2099 #15

I don't know about anyone else, but the little bit of the 2099 line I got to read, I really enjoyed. Unfortunately, at the time (1993) there was a lot of other great comic stuff going on, and my wallet would only stretch so far. One thing I had really looked forward to though was checking out the introduction of Thor 2099, in The Fall of the Hammer storyline. I've only ever found one issue of this story though (X-Men 2099 #5) and I only found that a week-and-a-half ago. I realize there isn't a high demand for 2099 anymore, but I'd love to see this story in TPB, just to read it and see what it was like.

For the cover, I'd go with Spider-Man 2099 #15, because it's the only cover with a prominent shot of Thor 2099, even if it is in silhouette. The only other cover to show him is Spider-Man 2099 #16, and he is way upstaged by Spidey's giant noggin on the cover.

*******

By the way, the five headshot covers make one giant image, seen below:

Marvel 2099 'Fall of the Hammer' Puzzle Cover Image (I 'shopped this with CV images, so it's not a perfect fit)
Marvel 2099 'Fall of the Hammer' Puzzle Cover Image (I 'shopped this with CV images, so it's not a perfect fit)

You can also see this on my list, Fall of the Hammer (Connected #8) if you would like.

10/14/12 Update: I added Spider-Man 2099 #15 awhile back, thanks to daarkanjel. I just today looked at the story arc page again, and noticed that I had forgotten 2099 Unlimited #4, which is apparently an epilogue to the story. So that beefs the TPB up to a nice 7 issues.

Would you buy it? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for reading.

@arthurkerr: Thor has been Donald Blake for years, then he was some construction worker with a beard. When Thor was no longer connected with him, Odin gave that guy Thunderstrike. Not sure who he has been since then.

yeah but Thor was Donald black it was just a construct created by odin but always was Thor. Please do not get me started on odin its why Odin removed the enchantment saying to Thor never again will I allow this to happen to you , nobody else will use your powers ever again.

It was marvel talking to the fans saying. Never again will we torment you with a bad story arc like this again.

I see they lied.

i for one would drop all marvel movies and books and never look back.

That is one horrible idea

@arthurkerr: I agree. Thor lives for thousands of years already and never really complains about it, no reason for him to start now.

@arthurkerr: I kind of agree with you, but I think it has to do with the way Marvel has set up their Thor- that being that Thor has to have a human "host." Whoever finds the hammer has the power of Thor, so when a host dies, a new host has to be found, and at that time, the god image takes on some changes. I don't really like that, but that seems to be the way it is at Marvel.

I wish they would keep Thor as Thor for 2099 i mean he is a god.

That is one of the things that make Thor awesome his ability to weather the ages , to outlive us all and simply go on. NOT some cry baby omg I am out living everybody ! like in high lander. So yeah um long post short Keep Thor as Thor.

Thanks for the input, folks! I'll have to add those issues when I *finally* have a computer that works well with CV (still working from library and friends' computers at the moment).

Punisher #10-12 all tie quite heavily into Fall of the Hammer as well.

I would like to see the all of the 2099 series released in trade paperback, they were all awesome until the end when they all merged into 2099 world of tomorrow, there is no need to reprint that comic.

@daarkanjel: Oh, cool!  Thanks, I'll add the lead-in.  How do you have them on disc?  Did Marvel do digital copies, or did you scan them yourself?  I didn't know that was available. :)

if your interested, i can set you up w/ digital copies of the storyline, i believe i have most of the 2099 volumes on disc, also, spider-man 2099 #15 is a lead in to the story, you would want that one if you're trying to put together a collection.

@william knowles: Sheesh, lucky you.  X-Men 2099 #5 is still the only issue of this I have found.  I'll get to read it one of these days. :)

I believe I have those issues as well, including posters and pin them on my bedroom wall.
