Nicholas' Description from PDSH:

Golden Oldie

  • Real Name: Jack "Pops" McCoy
  • First Appearance: Deviantart - October, 2015
  • Original Publisher: Deviantart
  • Created by: Nicholas Crenshaw & Bastard-Bird

Origin

Born 1885 in Golden Fork, Nevada, Jack McCoy graduated from the Lawrence Scientific School at Harvard with a degree in engineering in 1906. He worked as a mine engineer for the Ash Valley Mining Company until 1914 and the opening of hostilities for the First World War. Feeling there was more he could do than simply read reports of atrocities in the paper and pray, Jack was among the sixty-eight American volunteers, including Alan Seeger, who assembled in the Place du Palais Royal in Paris on the morning of August 25, 1914, to join the French Foreign Legion.

After the capitulation of the Central Powers in 1918, Jack returned to Golden Fork where he again took up a position with Ash Valley and, in time, wooed and married Cleo Insburg, daughter of mine owner Guillaume “Willy” Insburg. By the fall of 1919, they had a son, Yates McCoy.

By 1940, Jack was mine inspection chief and Yates had graduated high school and joined the navy. While Yates was in Hawaii for training, Cleo became sick with a fever and, in July of 1941, finally succumbed. When Yates died in the attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, Jack was inconsolable and, with nothing left, tried to join the army. He was, at this point, 56 years old and, while in rather good shape for a man his age, decades of working in and around gold mines had taken a toll. Jack was declared 4-F and no amount of protestations, appeals, or favours from old war buddies could get him in.

Soon after, while inspecting a mine outside of Golden Fork, a cave-in caused a pocket of weird gas to escape into the tunnels. Jack got everyone else out, but was caught in an aftershock and buried alive. The weird gas combined with the gold dust and permeated McCoy's body giving him an unheard of strength that allowed him to dig his way to the surface. McCoy discovered the combination of the gas and the gold dust had caused a remarkable transformation and his body was now at the peak of human potential, beyond even what he had been in his prime. His skin has changed to an organic golden metal, and his strength and vigor were more than human.

When he again tried to join the war effort McCoy was this time accepted with open arms and given special commission under Captain Elias Murdoch of the Army Air Corps as a 'free operator' for the course of the war. Also under Murdoch, by special detachment, were Brit Calvin Benton III and intelligence analyst Simon Edwards who had both been Mystery Men before the war and brought their 'particular skills' to bear for the War Department. The three, McCoy Benton and Edwards, frequently found themselves working with war correspondent and photojournalist Jane Janton who with her magic camera was very much an operational asset. By the end of the war the four had decided to continue their association as the Adventurers and would spend the next decade fighting criminal masterminds and mad scientists while solving weird mysteries all over the world.

Powers

Superhuman Strength: After the original accident, McCoy's strength was increased to superhuman levels sufficient to lift approximately 25 tons. His current strength levels allow him to seamlessly move extremely heavy objects with ease.

Superhuman Stamina: McCoy's muscles generate less fatigue toxins than the muscles of ordinary humans, granting him superhuman stamina. He can exert himself at peak capacity for about 24 hours before fatigue begins to affect him.

Superhuman Durability: Jack McCoy's skin is as hard as titanium steel and his muscle and bone tissues are considerably denser than the tissues of an ordinary human, granting him much greater resistance to physical injury than an ordinary human. He can withstand conventional handgun fire at a range of 4 feet and cannot be cut by any blade forged of conventional material, although in the event of required surgery his skin can be lacerated by an overpowered medical laser. He can withstand up to one-ton impacts or blasts of 150 pounds of TNT without serious injury, and is highly resistant to extreme temperatures and electrical shocks. His current level of durability enables him to withstand gun fire at point-blank range, and can withstand being lit on fire without suffering any serious or permanent injuries. He has withstood impacts from superhumans a good deal stronger than him, destructive energy attacks including electricity, and falls from great heights such as ninety story high skyscrapers.

Accelerated Healing Factor: Despite his near invulnerability, it is possible for McCoy to be hurt. If injured, he is capable of recovering from mild injuries in 1/3rd the time it would take an ordinary human.

Nicholas' Description of The Adventurers (Golden Age) from Facebook:

The Adventurers (Golden Age)

The Butler, the Masked Scholar, Shutterbug, Golden Oldie

Golden Oldie: (Team Leader) At age 56, World War I veteran Jack "Pops" McCoy was too old to once again come to the aid of his country against the Axis forces. So he resigned himself to working in his hometown gold mine. Then after a freak accident, Jack gained a new indestructible gold skin and superhuman strength. Now he fights the Axis forces as....The Golden Oldie. (pretty much his costume is gold skin, with a white dress shirt and pants. He don't go in for the fancy stauff, he figures shinin' gold skin is enough.)

The Masked Scholar: Simon Edwards was the best when it came to academics, due in no small part to the constant encouragement of his father. Then on the day of Simon's graduation as top of his class at a major ivy league school, Simon is informed that his father was killed by a mugger while on his way to the graduation. Devastated, Simon spent months building up his body. Now with it, such weapons as a razor sharp mortar board for throwing and exploding diplomas, as well as a keen mind, Simon Edwards is..."The Masked Scholar" (Basically his costume is a graduation cap an gown, all in black domino mask)

Shutterbug: Jane Janton was a girl photographer for a major metropolitan newspaper, when she discovered a strange magical camera. The camera gave her the ability to photograph anything, and then reconstruct it later in battle as well as combining them with other things she has photographed. Using the camera she is the impish Adventurer known as...Shutterbug! (sorry, (the creator) no idea what she looks like. (The creator) know she always has a camera though)

The Butler: Calvin Benton III had it all, born to a rich British family, good looks that would insure he could have any woman he wanted and the ability to known whatever someones thinking 5 minutes ahead of time as long as the thought was random and not planned. One night this ability came in useful as he was able to prevent a mugging. Realizing that he enjoyed the thrill of heroics, Calvin borrowed one of his trusted butler's uniforms and a handkerchief mask to become...The Butler.

Trivia:

There have been two spinoff characters of Golden Oldie:

  1. Golden Gnolldie - a Gnoll version of Golden Oldie, created by Barbara Maverick.
  2. Jill Dunn, the Woman of Gold - a daughter Jack doesn't know about. The character was created by Miguel Neira Balbontin, and the original image for her came from Barbara Maverick.

Nicholas' Description from DA/FB:

Big Ben

Benjamin McEachin entered the police academy shortly after earning a bachelor's degree in college. While attending the academy, he had to go through taser training. In order to pass, you have to feel what it's like to be tasered. Ben was tased, but instead of collapsing he grew into a ten foot giant! Somehow the taser had activated his inherent but dormant powers. After the startling revelation and upon finishing the academy, Ben joined the Metropolitan Police's Superhuman Squad. As a member of the squad, he was assigned to arrest and detain criminal superhumans. While with the special squad, he earned the nickname "Big Ben". Later, he resigned from Scotland Yard to become a member of U.N.Factor.

Big Ben can grow up to twenty-five feet tall. His mass and strength increase with him. Unfortunately, the only way to trigger his powers is with a strong electric shock. So scientists working for Scotland Yard designed a special belt that could administer such a shock.

Nicholas' Description from DeviantArt:

From Major Freedom (2): Formerly one of the Sons of Liberty.

From Major Freedom and the Sons of Liberty:

Sam, Benny, Herc, Pat, and Paulie were a group of poor children from Lancaster. They latched onto one another early on, with Sam serving as the gang's makeshift leader. They often got into trouble and ran small scams, but one day they found themselves involved with real time mobsters. These mobsters, in turn, were working with foreign spies, and the whole operation was busted by Major Freedom, who stumbled across the terrified kids hiding away in the villains' base.

Major Freedom decided to take the kids under his wing, and they took to him quickly. Soon, they had reorganized themselves as the Sons of Liberty, a so-called "junior volunteer legion." Major Freedom tried to keep them away from real danger, but while they had no powers, the kids were quick thinking and good scrappers.

All five would try to lie about their age and enlist in the Army, but only Pat and Paulie did so successfully, and the two both perished in D-Day, serving bravely. Sam and Benny had a falling out, though they and Herc remained close with Major Freedom. The remaining three boys would manage to enlist later on in the war, catching the tail end of the conflict. Sam vanished afterwards, tired of fighting, but Benny and Herc managed to continue working with Major Freedom, and became some of the earliest PATRIOT agents, serving with distinction. Benny later becomes the second Major Freedom.

She is also a demigod that I’m linking to another open source character of mine, Odinson (Thor). She can summon and manipulate the weather like her father. Has super strength and can fly. She is very anti- authoritarian. That makes her the wildcard on the team, and the one who butts heads the most with everyone. There is also no one she hates more than her father.

The Shrieker

Is the ghost of a Scottish crime lord that Dr. Hex killed on one of his government jobs. Like Demon Claw, he’s trying to redeem himself so he can pass over to the other side. He hopes if he helps Dr. Hex enough, the other side will be Heaven, not Hell. His shrieking is on a supersonic level. It can shatter glass, break up stone, brick or rock and even put a dent into most metals, not to mention how deafening it can be depending on the level he decides to use. He can float, and is intangible.
