@animehunter:

Found this just recently. Not sure how accurate it is. It shows the Beyonder and Owen Reese merging but from some recent comics it appears Owen Reece is separate so I don't know what happened. Also, I read that it sounded like Hickman retconned Secret Wars II. That everything in Secret Wars II was the imagination of the Beyonder from the first or took place in an alternate universe.

It kinda sucks Spidey isn't one of Kamala's role models, he's the ultimate kid hero in terms of backround, development, and feeling. He most likely paved the way for young super heroes, yet he still is not appreciated by most of the up coming generation. Kamala is awesome btw, even though she likes brutal killers like Wolverine and deadbeat dads like Reed Richards.

Spidey will never be on there level for most of the inspirational aspects that Marvel characters look up to, the only peeople inspired by Spidey who are fans themselves in the Marvel U most of the time is Flash and Deadpool ironically. Spidey needs some respect somehow.

Why does everyone like Cap btw(in universe), what does he got that Spidey doesn't.

Because Cap had/has a better PR dept. Also, Cap has always been about fighting the bad guys, even when he was a weakling. Parker wasn't. He really only fought crime when his own inaction resulted in the death of someone close to him. Cap really didn't need a close-to-home motivator to fight the bad guys.

When Cap stops a criminal, it seems he stays around or announces what he did. Spider-man beats people up and leaves them hanging from a lamp post with a note admitting responsibility. When the press talks about the two, who will get nice comments and who will get the not so nice comments? For most of Spider-man's career even his super-hero friends didn't really know what to make of him. It's not until very recently he was on a team and in the public eye. And even more recently (I think) did some/most of his teammates know who he was under the mask.

I gotta say Amazing Spider-Man 2 was much better, actually moving forward plots I care about and laying off the excess cheese.

Agreed on almost everything, but one....the cheese part......the "butt stuck to pants = typical bad luck Spider-Man" was VERY corny.

Although I do agree that it seems a little bit too over the top, you do have to understand that when the person you "love the most" basically ruins your entire life, you won't really be too happy about it. xD

If is is the person you love the most you....

  1. Forgive almost anything.
  2. If he punches you in the face, and webs you to a wall for the cops to find, you AT THE VERY FVCKING LEAST question his actions......and not swear revenge and become a full on criminal just for the sake of it.....

But Black Cat really isn't the most mentally stable of people, is she? She likes Spider-Man but not Parker. When he showed her his civilian identity, she demanded he put the mask back on. When her bad luck powers were rubbing off on spidey and he went to Dr Strange for help, it ended up with her super powers being removed at a bad time. (Cat got bad luck super powers which turned out to be from Kingpin who planned they would effect spidey the wrong way. When Dr Strange said he could remove them but could adversely effect the originating person, spidey said he didn't care, the person gave him enough grief).

I'm imagining this will either be a short storyline ending with the acceptance of the mind swap but with some caution going forward from the Cat. Or we will really see she is mentally unbalanced. A more "Fatal Attraction" type person who will go after Carli and MJ (does Cat know about Parker?) which will bring them back into Parker's life.

Hey in amazing spider-man #2 cap says just last week you tried blaming your behaviour on alien possession but goblin nation happened 31 days after superior venom... Error in continuity

I think there will be more continuity errors. I could have sworn I read that Spock was around for 6 months but in AMS 2 he mentions it happened around/after christmas (unless I'm thinking real time). Numerous mentions have said it was only months. So you have someone who in a brief time acts different around supers but because he isn't around them 24/7, it's not enough to step off alarm bells. But then you have someone who in a brief time acts different to the point of setting up a city wide surveillance system, has a headquarters with minions, and works with previous enemies yet his few friends who know his alter ego just think he's off.

Carli Cooper was looking for evidence on her own yet as a police officer I'm sure there's a liason with supers or she may have a way to get in touch with the Avengers. And it's fairly safe to say Doc Ock's known super powers don't include telepathy so she only has to be sure SpOck isn't around when conversing. She can tell Capt America or any Avenger her interaction with Doc Ock and his claim of being Spider-Man. Mary Jane was once introduced to Capt America by Spidey (though I don't know if it's been retconned after One More Day) but she seems known to the Torch and I think the Thing either knows her or Aunt May so she does have some clout in the cape world.

The SpOck storyline was interesting but I felt was rushed to show how better Parker is and due to the extended universe, had to end with Parker exerting control rather than the supers fighting SpOck when they realize what happened.

i don't understand, why did he punch cap?

Maybe he's pissed that they never told him about Flash being Venom. Or he's just having a delayed reaction to everyone being too dumb to recognize Spider-Man was replaced. Or it's Ghost Ock influencing him (hence the Superior Spider-Man allusion in the solicit).

I'm hoping it's about never being told about Flash being Venom. Wonder how far the story about him being taken over by Doc Ock will spread and how many people will believe it. It seems Tony Stark isn't aware of Parker's identity. I thought almost all everyone on the Avengers knew it. Who on the team doesn't know? I just remember Victoria Hand being excluded because of her closeness to Osborne.

@punyparker:

i guess he will be dead for a year or so, we might end up getting a "wolverine goes to heaven" kind of story where he will be reunidet with Rose, Itsu (Daken's mom) and the many wives and lovers he has had over the years, before he comes back to life.

wolverine is very lucky... in heaven he will have his own harem

And Maybe we'll get the opposite of when he went to Hell a while back. His body was occupied by something that went out his friends and teammates. This time we get something like a Mr. Rogers Wolverine. Whereas Parker died and we got the Superior Spider-Man, when Logan dies we'll get the Wondrous Wolverine. He'll walk around in Mr. Rogers' sweaters, hosting tea parties, settling differences without violence. And instead of thinking something is wrong, his friends and teammates prefer this version. We'll have a sequel to the Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine and in it Wolverine pays Spider-man all the money he owes.

From Marvel's wiki - Kraven is 6'00", 235 lbs. Parker is 5'10", 167 lbs. I will give the benefit of a a doubt about height but weight wise it should be obvious it's a different person. Kraven-spidey doesn't talk, use web shooters, and from the few panels we see, is climbing on the buildings not crawling. Parker-spidey almost always was talking as a way to hide how nervous he was when fighting. SpOck had the body, including voice, and access to memories (for a while). The biggest change was SpOck beating up the practical jokers. His building up an army could be explained as a progression of his crime fighting tools he started with "Big Time". An attitude change really isn't grounds for imprisonment or interrogation by Avengers.

And even if Dr. Strange or Rachel Summers discovered the truth, what could they do about it that wouldn't jeopardize his civilian identity? Spider-man was still a crime fighter. The Avengers can't really announce to the world the Spider-Man has been replaced. They really can't put him in the Vault. And, from what it appears, Parker would have died in Doc Ock's body so it's not something they can fix by another mind swap. And by reading SpOck's mind, they would know his intentions to be a better crime would be genuine. It's not as if a hero hasn't killed good guys and is still considered a hero- Wolverine Enemy of the State (didn't he kill some c-grade hero?), Winter Soldier killed Wolverine's wife, Iron Man took out a civilian jet liner. I'm sure there's more.

HE.

KILLED.

A GUY!!!!

Shot him in the head......and we didnt see reactions from ANYONE close to him.....

I can't argue on what you post,but c'mon......

It's just a flesh wound. A lightning bolt to that metal plate and he'll be as good as new.

Okay, oops, I forgot that. Apologist mode....ACTIVATED!

Rereading the issue it doesn't appear there are any cameras inside monitoring what was happening or at least any real time cameras. Spider-man has been accused of murder/killing before (Capt George Stacy the one I immediately remember). And since Spider-man doesn't kill, the obvious answer is that he is being blamed for Massacre's death. One of the people inside killed him. Probably killed him as Spider-man was disarming him. Not wanting to put someone in jail whose family member may have just been killed by Massacre, Spider-man took the blame. The Avengers have killed bad guys in the course of fighting and know of how Spider-man is always blamed for things he did not due, even accepting responsibilities for things out of his control, they're not going to look too deep into the death of a mass murderer.

@captain_oblivious: Then again Mary Jane saw through the Chameleon whose entire shtick is to completely mold himself after someone else. It works both ways.

Also, while I agree that Strange or telepaths finding out the truth wouldn't have worked practically or dramatically, it would've had to happen given the characterization and abilities they have, but it didn't so the story wasn't derailed. Isn't that the whole point of the main criticism to SSM? Story-over-character stance?

Yeah, I think part of the problem was the extended universe. The story had to be rushed in parts otherwise too many characters would compare notes and realize things were amiss sooner than later. And because of the constant push of tie-ins (just during SSM there was Age of Ultron and Infinity and now Original Sin) having SpOck as Spider-man might disrupt their story.

SSM should have been longer. JJJ was too accepting too quickly. The gathering of an army, building weapons for said army, and given the prison happened too fast. And also, the story ended not the way I would have liked. I don't mind Parker getting control on his own, but would have liked the Avengers or others realizing it's Doc Ock and putting SpOck on the defensive. Doc Ock got a home run from starting at third base. He became a hero when Parker had a hiding spot for his outfit, a place with unlimited funds to create tools without question, a team that supports him without question. If he wanted to be superior, he should have started with none of those and see where he ended up.

If I may make a suggestion, how about including the greatest issues or storylines done by the writers? Looking at the results, it seems more focused on recent writers and the creators. I didn't realize Peter David wrote "The Death of Jean DeWolff" until checking out the comic book resources list of top 50 spidey storylines. And if you're looking for a spidey with a funny story, check out ASM v1 #267. I don't think it was until the early 90s that credits appeared on the covers of the comics so people (namely me) might not have realized who was writing.

in big scale marvel events like AvX and Infinity, how involved was spider-man? His tie-ins are hardly mentioned and it is like he isn't even there. He used to be a big time player like in secret wars but now been put on the side-lines, he got recognition in AvX but that was about it... does anyone know why this is?

Spidey really isn't much of a front-line person. He works more with the average person and helps them out, not much of a space-farer. When he's used, he's more for how to be a good person than the powerful fighter. In the first secret wars, his biggest contributions were taking on the X-men, fighting Titania, and not being able to take directions for where the costume mending apparatus was located. In Secret Wars II, he showed the Beyonder how to use the restroom and extend mankind for an extra day when Mephisto and the Beyonder had a wager, neither of which is well known. In the Civil War, he was more showing the human side of what happens when a cape reveals his private identity. In AvX, he was used to show how he doesn't give up and everyone can have an impact. Spidey will play street football with some kids (Web of Spider-Man v1 #34). It wasn't until Luke Cage lead a team of Avengers that the team would engage at the street level.

As powerful as he is, Spidey is more about the human aspect and not the cosmic aspect of the Marvel Universe.
