Well she did do a lot of dubious things but it was her who improved the conditions of the middle classes significantly. Now there's not such a clear cut gap between the working class and the middle class. By the way I really don't like her either as I'm not a big fan of politics or politicians but just playing devil's advocate :P

@lvenger: You have a point to an extent, but as someone who is working class and lives in a poor area - tell that to the miners. She ruined so many lives. The people she helped were not the people who needed it most. And now the Tories are back in, the gap between the have's and the have not's is widening yet again. She was responsible for the destruction of communities, privatisation, she was in bed with big businesses and could not give a stuff about your average person on the street.

But then I did used to write to Arthur Scargill back in my teens so...I am more than a little biased. I hate the way the middle and upper classes in this country have reacted, as though it is another Churchill or Diana who has passed. My nan always told me you can judge not just a politician but ANY person based on how they treat the least fortunate. In that respect, she fails. She had some good ideas but dude - so did Hitler. Granted, they were nowhere near on the same scale! That is not my point at all. My point is that no person is all bad, we all have redeeming qualities if one is willing to look hard enough.

In her case, I am not.

Hmm fair points. I'm not too big a fan of her treatment of the miners or her focus on the upper classes. Not too big a fan of politicians in general really even though I'm quite left wing in my views so you won't hear me arguing with those points. Your nan seems to be quite good with advice by the way. That's quite a useful tip to judge a person by :)

I was really apathetical when I heard about it.I was just like "oh right".I wasn't happy when she died but I shed no tears either.I also agree that she did bad things to this country.I hate conservatism and she was in a way the embodiment of it.

Yeah, I would not go so far as to say I was happy that she died. I mean, that would just be cruel. But on the other side, I believe it was Frankie Boyle who said that for the price of her state funeral (payed for, I might add, by the very people she screwed over for so many years) they could buy every Scottish person a shovel, and they would hand her over to Satan personally XD Mean, but tough to argue with :P
