Id say just make sure you start at the beginning of an arc so you have less confusion, and since all DCnU titles just have 19 or 20 issues at the moment its really not hard or to expensive to catch up on 1 or 2 titles you like from scratch.. Just pick wisely, and remember to pick titles that intrest you and take peoples advise as a guideline rather then rule. (Ive personally read some comics considered bad that I love because those types of characters appeal to me, and I dislike alot of characters that alot of people tend to love.)
I should probably add: Its extra hard to compare these two since they are very different. Yes they are both sci-fi stories, however Starwars always seemed more fantasy'ish and 'what if' while focusing on emotional stories, while Trek is more grounded in reality attempting to be as realistic as possible focusing on space exploration and technology with atleast a basis in reality.
Well I absolutely love both, however its hard to judge considering how much more Trek content there is (video content), it feels like im alot more exposed to Trek wich has made it have a bigger impact on me while Starwars is short and sweet.. (and waaaaay better videogames).
In the end I guess ill have to say the Starwars world is more entertaining but Startrek has entertained me alot longer.
