We can rebuild them, we have the technology!

Just a list of old comic characters that could be reinvented and brought back into comics; either being a completely different person, having a reboot of the same character, having retcons into the characters or simply just bringing them back if they had a long disappearance. Suggestions are welcome of course.

List items

  • A highly intelligent child? Sounds interesting return and he could be part of a team as the resident genius.

  • Sounds kind of cool, bring him back as an anti-hero. Either as a magic user or make the scarab into a technological relic. Might even be nice to link the scarab to Kang the Conqueror's future technology.

  • A Kirby character who I think needs a retconned origin. Really, it would be nice if they make a new Invaders series set in World War II to give a better streamlined history for the character. Personally, I would make him a neutral character concerned with order; not good or evil.

  • Could potentially see the guy come back in The New 52, maybe a member of A.R.G.U.S.

  • With The New 52 Earth-2 Roman gods dying, would be interesting if more people start getting empowered by this fallen pantheon.

  • Make her a native of Earth-3's Justice Underground and being a protoplasmic creation of that world's good Lex Luthor and modelled after his dead wife. Keep her shapeshifting powers and psionic abilities making her an enemy of Ultraman.

  • I kind of like the idea of a guy made of paper for some reason. Perhaps change him up a bit and make him a villain for the new Katana series.

  • Perhaps merge him with the Team Titans one. Kind of torn on what to do with him. Make him an alien starchild (which is too Supermanish) or a mortal gaining Olympian powers (which is too Wonder Girlish). Perhaps a better solution is make him a young New God of New Genesis on Earth? A counterpart to Power Boy.

  • A bit of potential here I think for the character by tapping into the Asgardian lore of the Ice Giants. Either as part of a new Invader series set in the past or perhaps in the pages of Thor or Journey into Mystery. Really, I think all the Invaders and others should be given more respect as being early heroes in the Marvelverse.

  • Keep his old backstory as being made an immortal long ago and being an adversary of Vandal Savage. However, perhaps make him feel that his immortality is close to an end and thus he funded the Lab with Mitch Shelley in order to create a successor in the form of Resurrection Man.

Or make him Vandal Savage's counterpart on Earth-3.

  • Make her a New God of New Genesis with the ability to manipulate the Red and Green. Seems fitting with the name for a New God being able to manipulate nature to her desire.

  • Hmmm, a difficult one. Perhaps make him a modern age Composite Durlan? Like the Composite Man in Legion of Super-Heroes but maybe one with malfunctioning powers as he can't control his shape and ability to control powers. So, his body takes the form of four superpowered beings with their abilities.

  • Retool him into being a Justice League Dark foe with a crossover fight with Superman. Perhaps make him a foe of the former heroes of the Cult of the Cold Flame.

  • Retool him into being a Justice League Dark foe with a crossover fight with Wonder Woman. Also make him a foe of the former heroes of the Cult of the Cold Flame.

  • I think the way things are going makes it seem that Wonder Woman's rogues will almost entirely consist of gods and high end foes. So, I would retool Doctor Poison into not being a Wonder Woman foe but a Steve Trevor one... Doctor Poison could become a deranged foe of ARGUS, maybe a former scientist who wants to dabble in superhuman genetics.

  • Make her similar to Black Manta in the sense of making her reasons for revenge against Wonder Woman being personal. She should want to ruin Diana. Have her run a criminal empire where she got disfigured in a fight with Diana after she got brought to Man's World by Steve Trevor. And her organization serves as a foe to ARGUS and other police agencies.

  • A perfect opportunity in the reboot to revamp this character by having her be a noble woman from Atlantis who fights Wonder Woman during a crossover with the Aquaman comic. Really would have been best in the war with Atlantis storyline but still possible. But a good way of making her a villain of both Aquaman and Wonder Woman. Maybe she could become an ally of Ocean Master?

  • I would retool Hfuhruhurr into a foe of Stormwatch.

  • Seems like a good character for perhaps the new Animal Man series.

  • Would be nice to see him on Justice League Dark.

  • I remember reading about him in a Catwoman story and I kind of liked the character. Bring him back and make him a member of the League of Assassins.

  • I really liked this series and its a real shame that nothing was done more with the character. But the New 52 gives new opportunities so... I would remake the character. Instead of being a single Vulcan, I would make the Order of Vulcan who would be a secret society of alien hunters. All would have the Metavirus that gives them pyrokinetic powers that was given to them by Daemonite experiments in Roman times. So, change the White Martians to Daemonites here. They would be on and off villains for Martian Manhunter. Closest comparison I would think is perhaps the Forever Knights in Ben 10.

  • Nothing major but maybe make her a supporting character in an Azrael series where she and Michael Lane fight the machinations of both the Sacred Order of St. Dumas and the Brotherhood of the Demon as well as the war between both groups.

  • One thing I liked in the New 52 is how they linked the Kirby mythos together. Like OMAC... so, they should do the same thing with Atlas. Perhaps the son of Aurakles? Or an Aurakles from another Earth? Definitely some connection to the New Gods.

  • Considering the Kirby involvement here, I would give seriously consider perhaps having Scarlet have access to some Fourth World tech. But he would basically be another Batman-like figure who operated in Fawcett City. Perhaps even have Batman Inc attempting to recruit him but he refused. He would be a bit of an isolationist and prefer the solitude in looking after his own city and its interests.

  • Perhaps an African hero?

  • Either keep him the same or reintroduce him as a 5th Dimensional Imp.

  • Bring him again as a guy with access to an arsenal of weaponry but add that its through a H-Space Generator.

H-Space would be Hammer Space - a term in writing for comics/cartoons where the character pulled a hammer out of nowhere. The H-Space Generator would be equipment used by the Monitors. Seems fitting since the Monitors represent writers so they get a device that allows them to pull items out of nowhere. A lost H-Space Generator gets found by Bloodsport who uses it in his killing spree.

  • Such material here to explore some high end sci fi concepts for the Captain America side of things.

  • Make him an ancient immortal sorcerous White Martian who is a foe to Superman, Shazam and Martian Manhunter.

  • Make him a criminal mastermind who is a foe of the Batman of Japan.
