I'm totally on-board for more zero-issue style stuff in the future. There's quite a few series where I'd love to get to further explore the past. I like SoA's suggestion of an anthology type series that allows for different creative teams to come in and tell multiple-issue storylines set in the five-year timeline.

@Xshinobi: In case you're still interested in checking some out, I'll give you a list of some zero issues I know of that aren't new reader friendly.

Justice League - This is a continuation of the Shazam backup that's been in Justice League starting with Issue 7.

Green Lantern - This one actually is extremely self contained (excluding the "epilogue") but in the coming months it will be continuing a long-brewing storyline into a crossover event.

Green Lantern: New Guardians - From what I've gathered this one doesn't show any origin and is just a continuation of the regular monthly.

If I learn of any more, I'll try to come back and update. That said, happy hunting!

P.S. Some advice for a new reader: don't let the fear of being a little confused, story-wise, bother you. It comes with the territory! Jumping into comics can be pretty daunting but really you just have to make that jump. Being a little confused at the start is kind of an initiation and in no time at all, you'll completely forget the feeling. :D

Transported to Mars, I would use my powers for good. I would help the Martians and then, after winning the war, I'd return to Earth and help lead them into a peaceful future.
