Why Do You Stay With Your Comic Publisher of Choice?(BlogADay18)

Hell Hello
3 New Reviews up. give em a read and comment on your opinions.

I was having a discussion about the comics i choose to read and i was wondering. what keeps you with the comic book publisher(s) you do.?

Now for the most part im a DC person. i do read spiderman and sometimes deadpool but for the most part i only read DC. i wont be against a good comic ever but normally the characters of DC are the ones that appeal to me. now i was trying to figure out why and get your opinions. i think a lot of it has to do with the classic feeling and history of a lot of the DC characters. Characters like batman and superman have been around for  70 or so years. when seeing that i became interested in what they could do for that long and how time changed them. Some of it has to do with the shows i watched as a kid as well. i loved the batman and superman animated series'

I'm interested in your reasons for your alliances. so speak up!

PS apparently it snows here today? way to early for snow i think.

I guess kind of like Superman has limitless strength and the only thing in the universe that can hurt him keeps ending up in his enemies hands, despite the fact that it was from a planet that blew up in another galaxy (prior to New Krypton story arc). Come on its fiction. Both publishers have there advantages and disadvantages. But my reasons for liking Marvel was that i could identify with the characters alot more. DC characters seemed foreign to me. They didnt reflect the world that I saw. "

Most of DC is too campy for my taste. I think their characters suffer from their quite frankly bizarre early canon.

I'm enjoying Green Lantern, though.

I could care less about who publishes a book....if there's a well written book then I'm going to read it...it doesn't matter who publishes it

I am mostly a DC reader I guess, but I go where the good stories are. I read Marvel, Image, Dynamite, and Boom real regularly. IDW and Dark Horse on occasion as well. Anyone who is totally brand loyal is only cheating themselves.

Sometimes it is hard to find merchandise for DC characters, where you cant run 5 feet without seeing a Marvel product. I am talking about hats, shirts, bobbleheads, that sort of thing. I am mostly about Batman, so that obviously puts me in the DC area more, but I do not have a preference. "
yea the chance to buy more Zatanna stuff is my dream

Well I like both Marvel and DC.  I also read Dark Horse, Image, Dynamite, IDW, Zenescope, Archie, and anything else really depending on what catches my eye at the shop.  I used to really hunt down old silver age Marvel and DC Horror comics.  I probably have EVERY comic book company represented in my collection of 6,000 plus comics, you name it and I've got it!  Now I will admit to reading MORE DC, but only because they have Green Lantern.

I'm doing quite well in balancing my Marvel / DC readings... However, DC's Superior to Marvel in my Opinion.

@karrob:
well superman dosent have unlimited power not once has anyone be it writer or character said it
yeah you do have a point in that marvel characters are more relatable to us as real people
like i said look at the hulk and other characters i mean im not saying i dont like marvel because i do i read spiderman, deadpool and sometimes wolverine
but its just an issue that marvel has for some reason also they change their charaters so much one minute they can do something the next they gain some other power and or die and keep coming back
the later is also a problem with DC  Because none of them are perfect its just that in my eyes marvels problem is worse and following characters is a bit harder i mean you read more comics then me so you should like more characters and the question is can you keep up?
i mean i like marvel and all their characters as much as i like DC but i just find that DC comics are an easier read
Additional Comments
Another example of this are the "Omnipotent" beings in the marvel univerce their so many of them that are you that word shouldnt be used to described them also some character have beaten thing like eternity and im like yeah he's omnipotent yet he gets beat like nothing

What I find really funny is how DC fans can never say why they like DC without trashing Marvel at the same time. I honestly don't see why someone would need to put down Marvel to build up DC. This may go both ways but I've seen many more posts showing examples of DC fans hating on Marvel.

QFT.   And if anyone still thinks Marvel is better than DC; Siege. Argument over. "
Siege was alright, Dark Reign was pretty weak though...

For me I grew up on Marvel but started getting into DC when I matured. DC has better writing IMO and for the most part better characters.

@FadeToBlackBolt: i actually liked Siege, mostly becuase it was the end of the joint retardedness of Leader-of-the-Military-Osborn, Hammer, The Dark Avengers, and the Sentry. Those things accumulating over the years almost drove me insane.
No. Bad Marvel to me is Brand New Day, Wonderman the villain, and the complete awesomeness-turned-into-a-backpedaling-mess that was Civil War. crap like that makes me wanna vomit.

I have gone through various phases in my comic collecting. I grew up on Silver & Bronze age DC, and for a while would read nothing else -  I still have  a natural tendency to follow those characters even today - but Marvel began doing some black and white silver age reprints in the UK in the mid 1970's and that opened a new world of appreciation for me. I went through a stage of collecting Marvel SA stuff (though I don't have anywhere near as many Marvels as DC). Through the 80's & 90's I collected DC mainly, but also quite a few Independents (First & Image in particular). Since the turn of the century I have tended to collect "Big event" series such as Infinite Crisis, Civil War, etc (either in comic or TPB form) and have returned to collecting SA DC, Marvel and where possible Charlton to try and fill some (gaping) holes in my collection.

I read DC because I can stick to maybe 3 or 4 books a month if I just want to follow one or two characters. But with Marvel to follow just a few characters you have to buy like 5000 books! And when there is a large crossover it's even worse. Now there are cross books in DC but it happens less often and it seems the events have more of an effect.
