The end of ASM, issue 700 and the issues right before it should by all accounts have been a celebration of Peter Parker's career as Spider-Man, or perhaps a peaceful end to the character. Maybe resolution to his outstanding stories, retirement or maybe even glorious death in battle (a la Ultimate Spider-Man).
This. I would be glad if they let Peter die, we all know he'd come back at some point, because if ever there was a superhero that deserved a rest it's Peter. There were NUMEROUS choices for who could be the next Spider-Man!!! I'd take KAINE over Ock replacing him if it MUST be a villain or anti-hero of some sort that does it. I don't exactly CARE for Kaine, but hey at least it's within the Spider-Family and would WARRANT him being darker and more serious.

I would have rather they brought Kaine back to be Spider-Man. They had better choices to replace Peter. Knowing that it's gonna be Otto, unreal. I like to believe Slott had grabbed my interest once BIG TIME started, but it feels like its all for nothing. I will buy #700 just cause it is the last issue of Amazing Spider-Man. This is a huge let down. I haven't been happy with Marvel lately. I'm sticking with Ultimate Spider-Man till Peter takes his rightful place.
I 100% agree with the both of you. Spider-Man is (could be was) my favorite character not because he's Spider-Man, it is because it made me believe that anyone could be Spider-Man. Peter Parker is the one character anyone can relate to. I don't understand how we go from Otto from "Ends of the Earth", to now hear about Otto Octavius now has a change of heart, and want to be a better Spider-Man than Peter.
I would've understand if this was Kaine coming back to take over. I would've understand if it was Ben Reily coming back. I was acutally excited when the rumor it could've been Miguel O'Hara. This is just like the Jean-Paul debacle they had during "Knightfall".
Actually, when I think about it...I'm still pissed off about it. I didn't start getting back into Spider-Man until "The Gauntlet" & "The Last Hunt". I got hooked again right after "Spider-Island". This just sucks, and when will Marvel realize that it was Peter Parker we all liked reading about because he is the guy you root for. He continues to do right, regardless of what personal tragedy may comes his way. There hasn't been an Ultimate Spider-Man I have not liked and I will be sticking to that. But I'm sure Peter Parker does make a comeback just in time Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes out.
I'm curious where this leads (I agree with most, he will end up being a villian), but not a fan fo Alpha. I am excited for Hobgoblin's return, and I guess I'll be reading more Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man
Isn't that the same issue that has Spider-Man on the cover...??? That New Avengers issue was sick, and the fact the Iron Fist is becoming a focal point makes ths event better....
