Most Powerful Antagonists of the Naruto Universe

I still can't believe I only recently started Naruto. Feels like he has been a part of my life forever :). The think that sticks out to me the most about the Naruto series though is its antagonists which aren't just powerful but very very memorable. This is a list of the most powerful antagonists in order. I had to put Antagonists as some on this list actually turn good or never were really villains per say(like Neji Hyuga). This is there order of power from least to greatest.

NOTE 1: This is something I forgot to mention and this is super important. This isn't the characters at peak power per say its the characters at their most recent power levels. Thus Kimimaro is like 6-8 ranks below what he otherwise would be.

List items

  • I can't play the 1st antagonist happened to be such a throw away character. Even when making this list. He is very easy to forget. Sorry Mizuki you're just a lowly Chunin no one will ever remember.

  • She's only useful for medical reasons and man is that reason not exactly a good power showing.

  • The strong man of the ninja five. He definitely is no joke but just isn't as powerful as others on this list.

  • Guy is definitely no joke but just isn't as high as others on this list.

  • Sakon and Ukon are freaky to say the least. Their power is the only thing that matches said freakishness.

  • Her musical powers are no joke. And well if she had actually lived one could say, her power would eclipse most people on this list. Part of me is sad she did die. I wonder what kind of tricks she could of learned to make her more powerful.

  • Haku the boy that looks and sounds like a girl is definitely no joke. A shinobi who can even give your average Jonin issues. Its easy to froget how powerful he is. Guess Kabuto did some good with that technique after all, because he gave us a chance to remember him and Zabuza and just how good they really are.

  • The one Orochimaru wanted as his body before he got sick. He is no joke. Easily the power level of a Jonin. Thank god Gaara was there to fight his a$$ or things could've gone really badly.

  • Neji my friend you will be missed. I wish you didn't have to die, but alas that's life. Neji while certainly not a villain in the traditional sense was definitely a antagonist and a good one. His status as antagonist was exceptionally quick and that's the best thing. Still he was a powerful one and he only got stronger later on, all the way up to his death.

  • Jugo may be powerful but he's no Zabuza or Suigetsu. He feels like he should be more powerful but again he doesn't have the feats to back his claim up.

  • Suigetsu the powerful water style shinobi, while no match for other characters feats wise. Part of me feels that if more feats were shown he easily would be higher on this list.

  • Kankuro like his sister and brother were antagonists in the Chunin Exams and just like his sister is around Elite Jonin levels. That my friend is no joke.

  • While certainly no antagonist now just like her siblings she was during the Chunin exams. As she stands now she is around elite Jonin level, no joke to say the least.

  • Now this is a excellent Antagonist. Its easy to forget how powerful he is, but he truly is powerful. His silent killing technique perhaps makes him the best ninja on the show as he actually fights like one :).

  • While not a antagonist anymore, he certainly was during the Chunin exams. He had the power of your average Jonin and was the most powerful in their class. Since then he has become a Kage level shinobi becoming the Kazekage of the Sand Village.

  • Quite the unique antagonist to say the least. He may not be powerful like the others on this list but he certainly is no joke. He spy and infiltration abilities are greater than anyone else's in the Naruto universe.

  • My man Hidan is the 2nd to weakest of the Akatsuki. Still he is a Kage level shinobi and that is something we shouldn't forget.

  • The man who once dualed the 1st Hokage. Yup he's that freakin good. While he feels like he should be higher(like above Deidara for example) he just doesn't have the feats to back it.

  • "Art is an explosion!" This is a shinobi who took down Gaara. Yeah, he's that freakin good. Unfortunately he died to the law of the elemental properties of Chakra. "If 2 equals of different elements go up against each other and its water vs fire. Water wins every time. Or like in this case Lightning vs Earth Lightning wins everytime." Sad really Sasuke was truly his equal, Deidara just happened to be unlucky in what opponent he got.

  • The most powerful Sand shinobi of all time. He is no joke. The fact the only fight he ever lost on the show, he let them win says something about him. Who knows if we actually knew more about him he might actually even be able to beat Orochimaru but I guess we'll never know for sure.

  • He is so disgusting a character I consider his mom a villain just for birthing this disgusting b*stard. With Izanagi he is easily one of the most powerful shinobi ever.

  • The Man of snakes himself. Not to be underestimated and one who has killed two kage. That's certainly no weak feat.

  • The tailless tailed beat himself. With 4 out of 5 elemental affinities, Chakra on the level of a tailed beast, and Sharkskin he truly is a Kage level shinobi.

  • People argue she's one of the weakest members but her feats easily rank her higher than most think she would be. She is around par with Orochimaru no weak feat I may add.

  • The snake man's right hand man. Something has to be said about him being able to fight practically the entire world with just one other shinobi. Even if other said shinobi is Obito Uchiha. After the power boost from Orochimaru's cells he easily reached Orochimaru's status and with his unique abilities added to the mix one could easily say he's more powerful.

  • Never underestimate the power of Itachi. Only surpassed by Pain and Obito in power. If he had the eternal MS he might just be unstoppable. Now that is a compliment. His 2 greatest feats of all time are beating Orochimaru by pointing his finger and beating Kabuto with Izanami. Yeah he feels like a freakin god sometimes.

  • "Do you hate me now?!" We absolutely cannot as fans. Your awesomeness is only matched by your power. The Rinnegan easily makes you above the likes of Kabuto and Orochimaru. And only fellow users of it or 10 tails people can match it.

  • Something needs to be said about someone whose power only gets stronger after each conflict. While his journey may have been a dark one. His power has only grown stronger and stronger. As soon as he had MS, his power reached unprecedented levels and roughly equaled his older brother's. As soon as he gained the Rinnegan. He easily dwarfed Pain in power. Man this guy is powerful. Just glad he's back on our side.

  • Not to be underestimated. At just one MS level, he was able to control the 9 tails and fight the entire village by himself. Yeah, and people wonder why I consider him the most powerful shinobi born after the creation of the hidden villages. Since then he has only gotten stronger acquiring the Rinnegan. And then after that becoming the 10 tails Jinchuriki. This shinobi is no joke, No one should underestimate him.

  • As much as I like Obito better as a character, as far as power level goes nothing matches the real deal. This guy with only one rinnegan eye pulled all 9 tailed beats into the geddo statue simultaneously. After becoming the 10 tails Jinchuriki he only became even more powerful.

  • The most powerful character in the Naruto Universe, is no joke. Shifting dimensions as one of her chief attacks shows how powerful she really is. Add the fact that she has all 3 dojutsu, she's one shinobi that deserves every bit of praise. Even if she fell for reverse sexy no jutsu.
