Best Covers for Punisher Vol. 2

The second volume of The Punisher started in 1997 and ran for 104 issues, with several annuals and specials associated with it. These are my top ten favorite covers from that series.

List items

  • Loved this cover. The "silver embossed" cover is gimmicky to be sure, but the simplicity of it wins out.

  • Killer cover! This was a cherished comic of mine early on. The sepia look and wanted poster feel is perfect. Kudos to Eliot Brown!

  • Jae Lee has always been one of my favorite artists. This cool cover to the penultimate issue of Volume 2 is simple, but awesome.

  • The iconic first issue cover. Kind of cliched to add it to this list, but I coveted this comic for years. My cousin owned it and it seemed like to my young brain that this was unobtainable as Uncanny X-Men #1 or Amazing Fantasy #15. It wasn't until my early college years that reality set in and I purchased several copies for around a buck each. Not the best cover by far, but it has sentimental value to me.

  • Bill Sienkiewicz is another artists I just love. This cover just exemplifies Punisher so well. His saying "Next..." makes it for me.

  • Anytime Punisher and Daredevil get together is worth the price of admission. This cover is one of the better in any of their showdowns.

  • Joe Quesada is probably one of the best cover artists ever. His interior art is alright, but he has a power to just nail a cover.

  • Whilce Portacio does a great job with this cover. Frank had infiltrated a school that was having both gang related problems (thanks Kingpin!) and, oddly enough, terrorist cell problems (thanks Libya!). Despite the goofy premise, I've always thought this cover was awesome.

  • Surrounded by Doom? The good (or evil) doctor doesn't seem like a natural fit for Punisher (you can blame event shoehorning for that), but having him there does make for a striking cover.

  • While kind of ugly in that typical 1990s cover kind of way, I thought this cover rocked when I was younger. I suppose that nostalgia still remains since it makes my top ten list. I realize that this looks like Rob Leifeld's "muscles on top of muscles" kind of art. But as hokey as it is , I still think it's pretty bad ass.
