10 for me. It managed to give us good human characters, which so many of the previous films failed to achieve. The story was simple but nuanced. Some of the scenes with Godzilla were shot like a horror movie. It took Shin Godzilla’s spot for best atomic breath, for me.
I’m glad Takashi Yamazaki gave us a postwar drama—featuring Godzilla—that deals with thought-provoking subject matter, instead of just emulating WB’s Monstersverse. Those movies are fun blockbusters, but there’s nothing like going to back to the original roots of the 1954 Gojira.
I took some friends and family, who aren’t big G fans, and loved it. Toho should use Minus One as a blueprint and build upon it in the future.
