An RNC deprives the brain of blood by pinching off the carotids. A well applied rear naked can, and often does, put people unconcious whether they can still take in air or not. See Rickson Gracie vs Yamamoto in Japan Vale Tudo '95 for example.
Bucky get's slept courtesy of BJJ. Neck strength is not a factor...all flexing against a choke does is apply pressure to the carotids from both sides, which puts you a lot quicker.
