@smashecontrollers: If you're interested in Batman comic I strongly encourage you to pick up Batman: Zero Year. It starts this week, and the writer's going to be doing a re-telling of Batman's origin so it'll be a great place t jump in. Scott Snyder's been going an awesome job with the title and I have confidence that he'd do the same bats' origin.

So, I'm still kind of new to Batman comics compared to most, but he's my favorite character (as if the avatar wasn't a dead giveaway :P) and I've been really getting into his comics and buying as many as I can from a few deferent writers. I've also been paying allot of attention to what's being said about his comics on the forum as well, and I agree: there's been a few things that writers seem to have forgotten about the Dark Knight in the last few years.

First and probably most important:

The detective side of Batman.

He seems to have had some great prep feats lately (most recently the big finale of that Clayface story last month), but we haven't really seen much of the detective.

Which is really the heart and soul of what Batman is. He's the thinker, problem solver the world's greatest detective. But this seems to have been pushed to side while they focus on his prep instead.

Don't get me wrong the prep is important too, I just think the detective could use a bit of the spotlight for a change.

The second thing, and almost as important as the first, the hand to hand expert.

This also seems to have gotten put on the bench.

We all know that Bruce is a superb hand to hand fighter, one of the best in DC, but even If everyone already knows it doesn't mean we don't want to see it every once in awhile. I mean, he's Batman after all. hand to hand combat is one of the things he does best. But again, it's been pushed back more and more in the last few years and I'd really like to see more if it.

Anyways, hopefully these issues will be fixed once Zero Year gets going.

Tell me what you think.

@scorpion2501: I don't currently read any Image comics and I've heard of Topcow.

I'm just so glad that there's finally a company vs. company thread that doesn't involve Marvel or DC.

Well done. :)

@akbogert: I know I've said this before in our PM but I'd like to post it here as well.

So, people have been making some really good points, and I agree. You shouldn't get too emotional about a fictional character. you should read a good book, and appriciate it for what it is: A story.

But when some people read a really good story, like Tom Saywer, for instance, they can't help but to get attached to a certin character(s). And I think we all do to an extent, just some more then others.

But then when someone says something like "Tom Saywer was a peice-of-trash book!"

Those people tend to get really offended. And while I agree they should just let that kind of stuff go I also think that what a lot of people missed was that all he was saying was: Those people already have an emotional attachment to a certin character, story arc, ect.

We may not agree with them but we could stand to pay better attention to how what we post might sound and have a little more respect for those people's opinions, in the same way we'd like them to respect ours.

My favorite was definitely Denis Medri's Western Aquaman re-design.

@juliedc:

Most:

Flash for DC, Deadpool for Marvel.

Least:

Vibe, for DC, and probably Deathlock for Marvel.

They already made that movie. What was it called again...?

Oh, yeah, Robo-cop!
