The first step is always the hardest 0

SummaryNow this is the Chris Claremont I know and love! The story is a simple one, on the surface. Nightcrawler is a man looking for his place in the world he thought he'd left behind forever. He's back now and has found it's not quite so easy to go home again, nor is he the man he once was. This was brought home regarding his personal life with the highly nostalgic first arc of the series, and this issue has him taking the first tentative steps towards his new life. This issue starts, however, ...

Nightcrawler #3 If At First You Don't Succeed... 0

Brief SummaryAction, magic, betrayal, family quarrels, golden friendships -- this issue delivers and then some! The book opens on Kurt and his circus friends fighting Trimega. Things are quickly finished there when Margali, in a fit of maternal protectiveness, temporarily banishes the triple threat. Nightcrawler, Amanda and Margali then adjourn to the JGS for some much-needed assistance, but are met with a full court of X-Men led by Storm who isn't keen on the Szardos presence. Ororo and Kurt bu...

Nightcrawler #1, Rose-Colored Glasses 1

Okay, I admit it, this was an issue I had to read through a couple of times to fully appreciate. I think comic fans are no longer accustomed to story-telling at the level of Chris Claremont. These days as readers, we collectively pick up a book expecting to be spoon fed, with simplified plots and characterization. Welcome Back, X-Men (Amazing X-Men #2) 0

When Aaron and Lowe claimed they were bringing back the heart and soul of the X-Men with the return of Nightcrawler, they weren't kidding. Yes, the fuzzy blue elf is most assuredly the heart of the team in many ways, but Aaron has taken this a step farther and is using him to return the heart to all the characters on the team. This issue was very fast paced and full of action. Aaron took the time to give everyone on the team their moments to shine, from showing Storm's inner strength trumping her...

Amazing X-Men #1 2

This issue had fun, it had adventure, it had humor, it had heart, it had substance and hellishly good story-telling (no pun intended -- okay, a small one maybe). This is what the X-Men should be! There was no in-fighting, only that of a typical family which was pretty darn funny, in my opinion. There was no competition to see who rules the roost of the franchise. There were no heroes fighting heroes. This was the X-Men, as a team and a family with great character moments for everyone.I admit, I...
