I remember Aquaman was in the Spiderman range regarding strength but no DC hero outside of Superman, MM and Shazam can stand the crushing depths of the Ocean. Out of the water, Aquaman is still super strong and nearly invulnerable. Plus he has been the leader of the Atlantean army and is an effective fighter, able to maximize his strength. I think 100 million tons is accurate for the Sea King. For maybe Arthur Joseph Curry, I would say 30 tons. In the new 52, Aquaman's leaping ability is measured as 7 miles. Plus he wields the Trident of Poseidon with its various mystical abilities.

Writers didn't know how to use him. There was a perception that he talked to fish and was weak out of water. People forget that as a King, He oversaw the Atlantean Navy and was a skilled hand to hand combatant. Only a few writers from the old Justice League of America focused on his super strength. There is so much that could be done with him and I remember several JLA issues that had underwater scenes, but Aquaman wasn't included in the storyline. JLA: 105, 113, 162 just to name a few.
