I had huge doubts about how Cain would perform. He'd been out for so long and he wasn't out just taking a break, he was out dealing with really bad injuries. He'll never be the same again, LOL.

@ivana_strigidae: From someone Dana once regarded as a top p4p fighter to someone who should retire, what a fall indeed.

@ivana_strigidae: He really does. He's 1-6 in his last 7 fights. Even that one win was a horrible decision win.

The Don's Vault

Perhaps a break was in order. Clinging to his myopic obsession with the sciences ran the risk of robbing him of his time with his children. They were growing, at a pace faster than he'd anticipated. Could it hurt to trade the monotonous thrum of machine and computer for the sound of salted waves crashing against a white coast? If only for a day with his children? In the Iron Don's mind, the answer was predetermined. So in the soft light of his vault - his laboratory, in other words - he stood at the helm of a revolution sprung not by gun and violence, but discovery and breakthrough. Face catching the subtle glow of holographic screens, spheres and keyboards swirling round him like a wind, Andres felt the hand of self-expectation rested heavy on his shoulder.

He ignored it.

The Quantum Chamber
The Quantum Chamber

His attention sat only on the structure before him; the Quantum Chamber. To this invention, he gave the prime of his years, and in return it gave him specks of grey. Today, it would reward him in full. He swore it. Tis only natural I know these things, he thought, a suave smirk breaking through his beard, I'm a genius, after all. Confidence - arrogance, even - though not in short order, was well deserved. Sweeping his eyes from screen to screen and pulling every status report into his mind, the nanosecond came and went, Andres typed in the startup command - and all holograms faded. Eyes on the Quantum Chamber, and heart swimming in anticipation, his ears caught a crackle - then his eyes, a spark. In the chamber's heart, particles flared and purple arcs surged like newborn lightning. Andres watched, and smiled, pleased at the flashes of purple stroking his eyes. They were M-particles. Named after his wife, Mercy, they hummed and crackled as exotic variants of gluons, mediating the strong nuclear force and founding strange quantum effects when tunneling.

Tunneling that the Iron Don had traced to higher dimensions. And as M-particles tunneled to and fro between normal space and higher dimensions, their "flow" could be tuned - by the Quantum Chamber - to introduce energy into the system of the strong nuclear force and trigger expansion via a space-time lensing-like effect on the quantum scale. Good, Andres smirked, grabbing and tossing a book into the Quantum Chamber. And he watched, with pride and intent as the book expanded, growing in size and mass without violating the laws of thermodynamics. Then, a second command - a different command. And where once the Quantum Chamber enlarged, now it shrank, emitting a field of M-particles to shun the book's mass and store it's atom in a higher-dimensional data structure. It shrank and shrank and shrank till it sat at the subatomic scale where quantum effects reign supreme.

A breakthrough, Andres thought. He need conduct more experiments, then run more tests and then - use it on himself. To explore the quantum world was to open the gates to possibilities never known to the macroscopic world. For now, he shut the chamber down and left his hall of science and machine for the coast of Agiad'coda.

It was his promise to his family.
