Biography
Born and raised in Athens, Georgia, Pendragon enrolled and was accepted into Harvard University after rocketing through high school in a stunning display of academic prowess. Despite his focus on studies he was reported to have an active social life with a small group of friends and managed to maintain a fit and active lifestyle. While in Harvard he pursued a degree in anthropology and mythology before graduating summa cum laude.
Having committed to the United States Army to cover tuitions, Pendragon began serving his time owed to the Army. It was here he caught the attention of U.S. Army's Task Force Vorpal. A new force designed to deal with the ever prevalent and ever-growing threat of supernatural threats. The Task Force's mission was two-fold. One, to exterminate mythical creatures that posed a threat to the nation with experimental anti-cryptid weaponry. Two, the destruction, or containment, of dangerous or all-powerful artifacts. With Pendragon's specialty and knowledge of mythology, he was quickly swooped up and placed onto the team.
During his four years at Vorpal, Pendragon served in several mission's tasked to kill creatures beyond one's wildest dreams. Some sources even claiming that he once reclaimed the Holy Grail, however, there is no substantial proof to this claim. Nevertheless, he was an extremely valued and trusted member of the Task Force, which made the events of Operation; Avalon, all the more surprising.
While the exact details of what transpired are unknown, the team was sent into Europe to confirm or deny the validity of the Arthurian fable of Avalon. The place King Arthur was said to resting until England needed him. Given the potential threat that an entity like King Arthur would prove where the United States to ever enter a war with the United Kingdoms. Vorpal was tasked to confirm and then kill the resting king.
Only four pieces of information remain from that day, and they are these:
- Task Force Vorpal found the island known as Avalon.
- There was no trace of a sleeping king.
- No one ever regained contact with Vorpal and the Task Force was subsequently disbanded.
- Ambrosius Pendragon fled with one of the most powerful weapons in human history
Psychological Profile
Born into a family of humble class and wealth, Pendragon rarely found himself lacking in what he needed, however, was often denied the things he wanted. He displayed no sign of metahuman abilities, nor any supernatural gift. He performed well in both studies and physical activities, however, both were achieved through determination rather than any gift. By most conventional metrics he was lacking in anything special, besides his name, Pendragon.
Perhaps then it's then understandable how much Ambrosius attached himself to this name. Even adopting the nickname Arthur to further strengthen the connection between him and the legends. While there is no evidence that he is related to Arthur Pendragon, and in all likelihood, it is little more than a coincidence, Ambrosius fervently believed that he was a descendant of the great king of Camelot. It is, in turn, this belief that caused him to study mythology and join Vorpal. Yet none could have predicted how truly deep and obsessive his beliefs were.
Those who interacted with Pendragon before Avalon described him as a kind and a rather charismatic man. While many might assume one with such delusions of grandeur might display traits of extreme narcissism, most found him to be quite humble. For someone who thought of himself the heir to a throne, he did not act in such a way. Interaction with his squadmates even showed him to be rather rowdy and impulsive at times.
The only notable shift in his personality was when he exhibiting a large degree of focus. In moments of great stress, he displayed the ability to persevere and move towards the end even against mounting odds. It was this nature and determination that kept him alive throughout countless operations.
Post-Avalon his psychological condition is unknown. He is deemed a threat, however, due to the damage that could be caused were he to use the weapon he acquired in a fight, he has not been placed on any federal wanted list, nor have there been any efforts to apprehend him. Current predictions put him in the United States, however, his end game is unknown.
The Root (Drakengard)
Throughout human history, there have been countless legendary swords, Caladbolg, Masamune, Gram, and of course Excalibur. Common mythology places each of these weapons as different, each with their own quirks and legends. However, there exists a theory. That at the core of all these stories about mystical swords there is one. The inspiration behind the myth. One blade possessing power beyond compare, a single sword strong enough to decide the victor of a war, a weapon befitting the true king. This blade is the Root of All Legends, or it's true name, Drakengard, the Original Sword in the Stone.
The line between fiction and reality can be blurry, and while it may not be the all-powerful weapon stories make it out to be. The myths behind Drakengard get one thing right, it is a blade beyond compare. It possesses the property of unequivocal existence, it exists on a level above most objects. One would not be wholly inaccurate in calling it a metaphysical construct, the physical manifestation of the best. It is due to this that the blade is truly unbreakable because it is in nature to be so. There is little that it cannot cut, and after enough exposure, it can learn to cut what it cannot. Not because it grows sharper, but because it is the essence of superior. It stands able the rest, and when an equal is found, Drakengard grows to overcome it.
Beyond being physically indomitable, the blade itself possess one magical ability, a gift core to its nature as the Root of All Legends. It possesses the ability to recall and imbue itself with the traits of legends. Whether that means coating itself in the holy destructive light of Excalibur or even the righteous flames of Dyrnwyn.
At the end of the day, even a blade of Drakengard's caliber is useless in the hands of a novice and how effective the weapon is will largely depend on how skilled Pendragon becomes. However if there does come a day where he is to truly master the blade, there is a chance that much like the blade he will become a fighter without equal. The embodiment of the best.
